17 Uber Eats Driver Interview Questions and Answers

Learn what skills and qualities interviewers are looking for from an Uber Eats driver, what questions you can expect, and how you should go about answering them.

If you’re looking for a gig that offers flexible hours and the opportunity to be your own boss, driving for Uber Eats may be a good fit. As an Uber Eats driver, you’ll pick up and deliver food orders from local restaurants to customers.

Before you can start driving, you’ll need to go through an interview process. While Uber doesn’t conduct formal interviews for Uber Eats drivers, they will ask you to complete a written exam and may contact you for a phone screen.

To help you prepare, we’ve put together a list of Uber Eats driver interview questions and answers.

Are you comfortable driving in busy city streets?

This question is an opportunity to show the interviewer that you have experience driving in a city and can navigate through traffic. If you’ve driven for Uber or Lyft before, talk about your previous experiences with this type of driving. If you haven’t driven for these companies, explain how you feel about driving in busy streets and what strategies you would use to stay safe.

Example: “I am very comfortable driving in busy city streets. I have been driving for Uber for two years now, so I’m used to navigating through heavy traffic. When I pick up my delivery orders, I always make sure to check my mirrors and blind spots before pulling out into traffic. I also try to avoid rush hour as much as possible because it’s more difficult to drive during those times.”

What are some of the best practices you have for driving safely?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you approach driving and whether your practices align with Uber’s. You can answer this question by describing some of your best safety practices, such as checking mirrors frequently or avoiding distractions while driving.

Example: “I always make sure to check my mirrors every few seconds when I’m on the road so that I can be aware of any vehicles around me. I also avoid using my phone while driving unless it is for navigation purposes. When I am not actively looking at the road, I put my phone in a hands-free holder so that I can use voice commands to access Siri or Google Assistant.”

How would you describe your customer service skills?

Customer service skills are an important part of working as an Uber Eats driver. You’ll be interacting with customers and ensuring they have a positive experience, so it’s important to show that you can provide excellent customer service. When answering this question, try to highlight your interpersonal skills and ability to solve problems.

Example: “I believe I have strong customer service skills because I enjoy helping people and making them happy. In my previous job, I was the first point of contact for many customers, which meant I had to answer questions and resolve issues quickly. I always tried to make sure customers were satisfied with their experience, even if there wasn’t anything I could do about their issue.”

What is your experience with food delivery services?

This question can help the interviewer learn more about your experience with food delivery services and how you might fit in at Uber Eats. If you have previous experience, share what you learned from that job and how it could apply to this position. If you don’t have prior experience, explain why you’re excited for this opportunity.

Example: “I’ve worked as a waiter for five years now, so I’m very familiar with the process of delivering food to customers. In my last restaurant job, we used an online ordering system where customers placed their orders on our website or mobile app. This helped us stay organized and ensured we had all the right ingredients and meals ready when the customer arrived. I think these skills will be helpful in my role as an Uber Eats driver.”

Provide an example of a time when you went above and beyond for a customer.

This question can help the interviewer determine how you handle customer service situations. Use examples from your previous experience that show you’re a team player and enjoy helping others.

Example: “When I worked at my last job, we had a regular customer who would order food every day for lunch. One day, he ordered his usual but didn’t include any sides with it. When I delivered the food to him, I noticed he hadn’t included a side dish. I asked if everything was okay, and he said he forgot to order one. I offered to go back to the restaurant and get him another side dish on the house. He was so appreciative of my offer and gave me an extra tip.”

If a customer was unhappy with their order, how would you handle it?

This question can help the interviewer assess your customer service skills. Use examples from previous experiences to show how you would handle this situation and what steps you would take to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Example: “If a customer was unhappy with their order, I would first apologize for the inconvenience and ask them if there is anything I could do to improve their experience. If they were unsatisfied with the food or delivery time, I would offer to remake the meal at no cost. If they were unsatisfied with the quality of the food, I would give them a discount on their next Uber Eats order.”

What would you do if you got lost on your way to pick up an order?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you handle unexpected challenges on the job. Use your answer to highlight your problem-solving skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.

Example: “If I got lost, I would first try to find a place where I could pull over safely and check my phone for directions. If that didn’t work, I would call the customer to let them know what happened and ask if they could give me their address again. I would also contact my delivery partner so they could meet me at the location with the order.”

How well can you multitask?

This question is a great way to test your ability to multitask and how well you can manage several tasks at once. When answering this question, it’s important to show that you’re capable of handling multiple responsibilities while still maintaining quality in each task.

Example: “I’m very good at multitasking because I have experience working with many customers at the same time. In my previous position as a server, I would take orders from multiple tables at once and deliver food to different people at different times. This helped me develop skills for prioritizing which tasks are most important and when they need to be completed.”

Do you have a valid driver’s license?

The interviewer will likely ask this question to ensure that you have the necessary qualifications to drive for Uber Eats. If you do not have a driver’s license, explain why and what other forms of transportation you use.

Example: “I am currently in the process of getting my driver’s license. I have been driving for over five years now, but I never had the time to take the test. However, I plan on taking it soon so that I can apply for more delivery jobs.”

When driving for Uber Eats, do you plan on using your personal vehicle, a company vehicle or a bike?

This question is an opportunity to show your interviewer that you have experience driving for Uber Eats and how you plan on doing so. If you’ve never driven for Uber Eats, you can still answer this question by describing the vehicle you use when you drive for other delivery services.

Example: “I prefer to drive my own car because I feel it’s more comfortable than a company vehicle. However, if there are no vehicles available, I will be happy to drive one of yours.”

We want to make the process of ordering food from your app as simple as possible. How would you improve the ordering process?

This question is an opportunity to show your problem-solving skills and creativity. You can answer this question by describing a specific process you would use to make the ordering process easier for customers.

Example: “I think one of the most important things when it comes to making the ordering process as simple as possible is ensuring that all information is accurate. For example, if I were delivering food from a restaurant that had multiple locations, I would ensure that the customer’s address was correct so they didn’t have to change their location while placing their order. This could save them time and reduce confusion.”

Describe your driving style.

This question is an opportunity to show your interviewer that you are a safe driver. You can describe how you stay aware of the road and other drivers, as well as any special driving skills or certifications you have.

Example: “I am very cautious when I drive for Uber Eats. I always make sure my mirrors are adjusted properly so I can see everything around me. I also keep my speed at or below the posted limit, and I use my turn signals appropriately. I’ve taken defensive driving courses in the past, which has helped me develop these habits.”

What makes you qualified to deliver food?

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you understand the responsibilities of this position. Use examples from your previous experience and explain how they helped you develop these skills.

Example: “I have been delivering food for my family’s restaurant since I was in high school, so I am very familiar with the process. In fact, I often delivered orders to customers who were waiting in line at the register. This gave me practice interacting with people and developing customer service skills. I also learned how to navigate busy streets and find locations quickly.”

Which restaurants do you like to work with the most?

This question can help the interviewer get a sense of your experience with Uber Eats and how you interact with customers. It can also show them which restaurants are most likely to have drivers who work for Uber Eats regularly. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention some of the restaurants that you’ve worked with in the past or plan on working with in the future.

Example: “I really enjoy working with sushi restaurants because I love sushi myself. The customers are usually very friendly and always appreciate my service. Another restaurant I like to work with is Chipotle because I’m a big fan of their food and I find that many of their customers are as well. They’re often more than happy to talk about their favorite menu items.”

What do you think is the most important aspect of customer service?

Customer service is a vital part of working as an Uber Eats driver. The interviewer wants to know that you understand the importance of providing excellent customer service and how it can impact your success in this role. Use examples from previous work experiences or discuss what you think makes for good customer service.

Example: “I believe that empathy is one of the most important aspects of customer service. When I’m interacting with customers, I try to put myself in their shoes and imagine what they might be feeling. For example, if someone has just placed an order and I haven’t picked it up yet, I’ll call them to let them know I’m on my way so they don’t have to wait too long. This shows them that I care about their experience.”

How often do you plan on working for Uber Eats?

This question is a great way for the interviewer to get an idea of your availability. They want to know that you’re going to be able to work when they need you, so it’s important to give them a specific answer. If you have other commitments in your life, like school or another job, make sure to mention those as well.

Example: “I plan on working for Uber Eats full-time. I’m currently attending college and am looking for a part-time job to help pay for my tuition. I can work any day of the week, but I prefer weekends because I don’t have class.”

There is a promotion going on where you can earn extra money for completing deliveries quickly. How would you approach your deliveries during this time?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you handle promotions and incentives. It can also show them your ability to multitask and prioritize deliveries based on their importance. In your answer, try to explain how you would manage multiple orders at once while still ensuring each one is delivered in a timely manner.

Example: “I have experience with working during busy times when there are special promotions or events going on. During these times, I make sure that I am prepared for an increase in orders by making sure my car is stocked with supplies and I’m ready to drive as soon as I get a delivery request. I also use technology to help me stay organized and ensure I don’t miss any important information about the order.”
