Veterinary Assistant Cover Letter Example 1

I am writing to express my interest in the position of Veterinary Assistant that is currently posted on your company website. I have several years of experience as a veterinary assistant and I believe I would be an asset to your team.

I began my career in 2011 at the Rochester Hills Animal Hospital, a private clinic owned and operated by my family. While I did some filing and administrative work, my primary focus was assisting Dr. John Small with his examinations and surgeries. He taught me most of what I know about being a veterinary assistant and he has since retired, so I am now learning from Dr. Amanda Urlacher at the same clinic.

During my tenure at the clinic, I have had the opportunity to assist with several types of medical care, including emergency cases, preventative care, wellness exams, vaccinations, surgical procedures and dental work. I have also learned how to prepare food for cats and dogs as well as help with general housekeeping duties such as laundry and cleaning litter boxes.

In addition to my practical experience as a veterinary assistant, I also hold an associate’s degree in applied science in veterinary technology. This gives me an advantage over many applicants because it gives me a solid foundation in both medical care and laboratory techniques along with administrative skills that many assistants lack.

I have always enjoyed working with animals and consider it both a passion as well as a calling; caring for animals is what motivates me to give them my best possible care every time they enter our clinic doors. If given the opportunity, I feel certain that I would be able to continue providing great service to your team while also upholding your high standards for customer service.

Veterinary Assistant Cover Letter Example 2

I am writing to express my interest in the position of Veterinary Assistant that is currently available with your company. I have been working as a veterinary assistant for the last 2 years at ABCvet Specialists, an integrated animal hospital in New York City. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology from Brooklyn College in May 2010 and have been working ever since.

I first started as a receptionist at ABCvet before moving on to do more involved tasks such as taking vitals, preparing animals for surgery, and assisting doctors during examinations. I also learned how to handle emergencies such as wounds that become infected or animals that become agitated during procedures. My experience working at ABCvet has made me comfortable working with all kinds of animals, including those that are unruly or sick. I am skilled at handling both large and small animals, including those with sensitive stomachs or injuries. I am proficient in using a variety of different veterinary instruments and equipment, including scales, stethoscopes, blood draws, and suturing needles.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss my resume and answer any questions you may have for me. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Veterinary Assistant Cover Letter Example 3

I am writing to express my interest in the open position of Veterinary Assistant at your clinic. I have extensive experience working with both humans and animals, and I believe this will be an excellent match for my skills and background.

My experience includes three years as a veterinary assistant at VCA Blue Hills Animal Hospital in Boston, MA. During my tenure, I performed administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, taking appointments, scheduling diagnostic tests and surgery, and compiling treatment records. I also assisted in diagnosing and treating animals, including administering medications and monitoring vital signs. In addition to the standard duties associated with the position, I was responsible for preparing medical records for clients who opted to have their animals’ records transferred to another facility.

I am a hardworking individual who takes pride in delivering excellent customer service to clients and patients alike. My outgoing personality allows me to establish rapport easily with both human and animal patients, which makes it easier for them to open up and share their concerns with me. My willingness to learn makes me an ideal candidate for advancement in the veterinary field; as a matter of fact, I recently completed an 18-week course on Equine Internal Medicine at North Georgia State College that was sponsored by VCA.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss my resume further. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Veterinary Assistant Cover Letter Writing Tips

Show your ability to work well with others

Your cover letter is a chance to show the employer what qualities you have that are essential for the job. For example, if you’re applying to be a veterinary assistant, one quality they’re looking for is somebody who can work well with others.

You want to make it clear in your letter that you are able and willing to work as part of a team in order to keep pets happy and healthy. You might mention how you have experience working closely with co-workers in another profession or volunteer work where this was very important.

Show your love for animals

Veterinary assistants are often responsible for caring for the animals they work with, so it’s vital that you show your love for animals in your cover letter. This can be as simple as including a few examples of how you’ve cared for pets throughout the years.

If possible, include an anecdote that shows how you were able to calm a frightened animal in a difficult situation. For example, if there was an injured dog that needed to be transported to the vet and everyone else was afraid of getting bit, talk about how you were able to move the dog safely without any injuries occurring. It’s this kind of experience employers are looking for!

Address specific job requirements

By addressing the job’s requirements in your cover letter, you can demonstrate to employers where you fit into their company. Use the job description as a guide for writing about how your skills and experience meet each of their needs. If there are any gaps in your resume, address them here by using this opportunity to showcase why they don’t detract from your qualifications.

Proofread your cover letter

Veterinary assistants must be extremely detail-oriented in their work. A single spelling or grammatical error will distract from the main message of your cover letter. Be sure to proofread your work before submission and pay attention to the small details in order to ensure you get this job.
