Example: “I worked as a server at a local restaurant for five years before I started my career in accounting. While I enjoyed being a server, I decided to pursue an accounting degree because I wanted to advance my career and earn more money. Accounting is something I’ve always been passionate about, so it was an easy decision.”

3. What is your availability?

Employers ask this question to make sure you are available for the job. They want someone who can start right away and work full-time hours. When answering, be honest about your availability. If you have a specific time of year that you prefer not to work, let them know.

Example: “I am currently available to start immediately. I would like to stay in this position for at least two years, so I’m open to working any shifts or days as long as they’re within my availability.”

4. How would you greet customers who were difficult or unhappy with their stay?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you would handle a challenging situation. Use examples from your experience to show that you have what it takes to be successful in this role.

Example: “I once had a customer who was unhappy with their room because they wanted a view of the ocean and instead got a view of the parking lot. I apologized for the inconvenience, offered them an upgrade at no charge and told them we would do everything we could to make sure they enjoyed their stay. They were happy with the new room and even upgraded their dinner reservation to include wine.”

5. Tell me about a time you had to deal with an upset customer, how did you handle it?

An interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your customer service skills. They want to know how you would handle a situation that could arise in their workplace. Use examples from previous jobs or describe what you would do if you encountered an upset customer.

Example: “In my last position, I had a guest who was unhappy with the room they were given. The hotel was full and we couldn’t move them to another room, so I offered to give them a discount on their stay. They accepted the offer and seemed satisfied. If I ever encounter an upset customer at Accor, I would try to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

6. Describe your experience with handling money and operating a cash register.

Accor is a large company that operates in many countries. As such, it’s important for employees to be able to handle cash and operate a register. This question helps the interviewer determine whether you have experience with these tasks and how well you can perform them. In your answer, describe any previous experience handling money and operating a cash register.

8. What languages can you speak fluently?

Example: “I’ve been a manager for my current employer for three years now. I started as a front desk receptionist but was promoted after six months because of my excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities. My first challenge as a manager was learning how to delegate tasks effectively so everyone could get their work done while still maintaining high standards. I learned that it’s important to communicate clearly with my team members about expectations and goals.”

15. Do you have experience using MS Office programs such as Excel and Word?

The interviewer may ask you this question to see if you have experience using the same programs they use at Accor. If you don’t, it’s important to show that you can learn new software quickly and efficiently.

Example: “I’ve used MS Office for years in my previous roles, so I’m very familiar with how to use Excel and Word. 16. Would you consider yourself tech savvy?

17. Are you available to work weekends and holidays?

This question is a good way for the interviewer to assess your availability and willingness to work when business is typically busiest. If you are not available to work weekends or holidays, it’s important to let them know as soon as possible so they can find someone who is.

Example: “I am happy to work any hours that are required of me. I understand that working weekends and holidays is part of this job, however, if there were an opportunity to work during the weekdays only, I would be open to that discussion.”

18. Which shift are you available to work?

This question is a way for the interviewer to learn more about your availability and schedule. They may also want to know if you have any experience working nights or weekends. When answering this question, be honest about your availability and try to highlight any flexibility you might have.

Example: “I am available to work all shifts, including nights and weekends. I understand that some positions require weekend work, so I would be happy to do so as long as it’s not every weekend. I’m excited to start my career with Accor and will do whatever it takes to make sure our guests are having an amazing time.”

19. How well do you handle stress?

Accor is a large company that often has many projects going on at once. The interviewer wants to know how you will handle the stress of working for such a large organization and if you can keep up with their pace. Show them your ability to multitask, prioritize tasks and manage deadlines.

Example: “I have worked in hospitality for over five years now, so I am used to handling multiple tasks at once. In my last position, I was responsible for managing social media accounts, responding to customer service inquiries and creating content for our blog. I also had to ensure all posts were scheduled correctly and published on time. I enjoy having a lot of responsibility and find it easy to stay organized.”

20. Give an example of a time when you had to solve a problem that was not straightforward. How did you approach the problem?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you approach challenges and solve problems. Use your answer to highlight your critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities and ability to adapt to changing situations.

Example: “When I was working as a server at a restaurant, we were short on staff one night, which meant that some servers had to cover multiple tables at once. This led to long wait times between courses for customers, which in turn led to unhappy customers. I approached my manager about the issue, and together we decided to hire more staff so that each server could only have one table at a time.”
