Agilysys Interview Process

The interview process at Agilysys can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most positions will require at least two rounds of interviews, one of which is usually a technical interview. The hiring process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

1. Describe your experience with SQL.

SQL is a database language that’s used to create and manage databases. It’s an important skill for developers, so the interviewer may ask this question to see if you have experience with SQL. If you don’t have any experience with SQL, consider describing your experience with other programming languages.

Example: “I’ve worked with SQL in my previous role as a developer. I was responsible for creating new tables and managing existing ones. I also had to use SQL to update data within existing tables. In my current position, I haven’t needed to work with SQL much, but I’m familiar with it.”

2. Agilysys has a code review process, how do you feel about this?

Code review is a process that Agilysys uses to ensure the quality of their software. This question helps employers understand how you feel about this type of process and whether or not you would be comfortable with it in your new role.

Example: “I think code reviews are an excellent way to make sure everyone on the team understands what they’re working on. I’ve been part of several projects where we had to do code reviews, and I found them helpful because they helped me learn more about my teammates’ workflows and processes. It also gave me the opportunity to ask questions if I didn’t understand something.”

3. What are some challenges that the hospitality industry will be facing in the next 5 years?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the industry and how you can help solve problems. When answering this question, it’s important to be honest about what challenges are ahead for the hospitality industry. You should also include ways that Agilysys could help overcome these challenges.

Example: “One challenge I see in the next 5 years is finding qualified employees. With more people traveling than ever before, there will be an increased need for hotel staff. However, with fewer people entering into the hospitality field, there may not be enough workers to fill all of the positions. This means that companies like Agilysys will have to find innovative ways to attract new talent.”

4. How would you respond to an angry customer who was unhappy with their purchase?

This question can help the interviewer assess your customer service skills and how you handle conflict. Use examples from past experiences to highlight your problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

Example: “I once had a guest who was unhappy with their meal because they didn’t like the taste of it. I listened to them explain why they were upset and apologized for their experience. Then, I offered to replace their meal or give them a discount on their next visit. They chose to have another meal, which they enjoyed more than the first one.”

5. Have you worked on projects where you had to work across teams? What were some of the challenges and successes you faced?

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of your teamwork skills and ability to collaborate with others. Use examples from previous work experiences where you had to communicate with other teams or departments, such as marketing or sales, to complete a project successfully.

Example: “In my last role, I worked on several projects that required collaboration between different teams. One example was when we were working on an event for a client who wanted us to integrate our POS system into their social media platforms. We needed to reach out to our marketing team to create content that would appeal to the client’s target audience. This led to some challenges because it took longer than expected to develop the content, but in the end, we created a successful campaign.”

6. Do you have any experience working with web applications? (JavaScript/HTML)

This question is an opportunity to show your technical skills and knowledge. If you have experience with web applications, describe the type of work you did in this area. If you don’t have direct experience, explain what other types of programming languages or software you’ve used before.

The interviewer may ask this question to gauge your level of experience with Agilysys’s products and services. If you have no prior experience, it is important to show that you are eager to learn about the company’s offerings. You can describe what cloud-based development is and how it might benefit a hospitality business like Agilysys.

Example: “I am familiar with cloud-based development because I worked for a software development company in my last position. My previous employer used cloud technology to develop new applications and integrate them into existing systems. Cloud-based development allows businesses to scale up or down their operations as needed without having to purchase additional hardware.”

8. Tell me about a time when you disagreed with a coworker on a project, how did you handle it?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you handle conflict and disagreements in the workplace. It’s important to show that you’re willing to voice your opinion, but also able to work with others to find a solution.

Example: “In my last role as an event planner, I disagreed with one of my coworkers on which type of music we should play at our company party. My coworker wanted to play more modern music, while I preferred classic rock. We discussed our opinions for a few minutes before deciding to compromise by playing both types of music during different parts of the night.”

9. Are you comfortable working remotely?

Working remotely is a common practice in the hospitality industry. Employers ask this question to make sure you’re comfortable with working from home or another remote location. They want to know that you can still be productive and get your work done without being in an office setting.

Example: “I am very comfortable working remotely. In my last position, I worked from home two days per week. This allowed me to spend more time with my family while still getting all of my work done. It also gave me the opportunity to complete tasks ahead of schedule so I could take additional time off.”

10. How would you describe yourself as a team member?

This question is an opportunity to show your interviewer that you are a valuable team member. Use this question as an opportunity to highlight your communication skills, problem-solving abilities and ability to work with others.

Example: “I am a highly motivated individual who always strives to do my best. I believe in the importance of teamwork and collaboration, which is why I enjoy working on teams. In my previous role, I was part of a project team where we were tasked with developing a new app for our company. My teammates and I worked together to develop a plan for the app and then implemented it successfully.”

11. What are some qualities you look for in a leader?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have similar leadership qualities to those of Agilysys. Use this opportunity to showcase your ability to lead a team and motivate others.

Example: “I believe that a leader should be someone who is empathetic, kind and compassionate. A good leader should always put the needs of their employees first and make sure they’re happy in their work environment.”

12. Give me an example of a time when you felt like you went above and beyond at work.

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you are willing to go the extra mile for your employer. When answering this question, it can be helpful to think of an example from your previous job where you went above and beyond what was expected of you.

Example: “At my last job, I noticed that our guests were having trouble finding their rooms because they couldn’t read the signage in the hotel. So, I volunteered to learn braille so I could help our guests find their rooms more easily. It took me some time to learn how to translate the signs into braille, but once I did, I started teaching other employees how to do it as well.”

13. Do you have experience handling large amounts of data?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have experience with Agilysys’s products. Use your answer to highlight your ability to work with large amounts of data and how you use it to benefit your team.

Example: “In my last role, I was responsible for organizing all of our company’s customer information into a database. This included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and other important details about customers. It was essential that we keep this information organized so we could easily access it when needed. I used several tools to organize this data, including Microsoft Access and SQL Server.”

14. What is one thing that you think could be improved about our product?

This question can help the interviewer determine your critical thinking skills and how you approach problem-solving. When answering this question, it can be helpful to focus on a specific feature of their product that could use improvement or an aspect of the company’s culture that you would like to see changed.

Example: “I think one thing that Agilysys could improve about its product is the customer service training provided to employees. I’ve noticed that some representatives are not as knowledgeable about the products they’re selling as others, which can lead to customers feeling frustrated when they call in with questions. I believe providing more thorough training for all employees would benefit both the company and its customers.”

15. Tell us about a time where you had to deal with a difficult client or situation.

An interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your customer service skills. They want to know how you would handle a similar situation in the future and if you have any experience with difficult clients or situations.

Example: “I once had a client who was upset because they didn’t get their food on time. I explained that we were experiencing technical difficulties, but it wasn’t our fault. The client understood and appreciated my honesty. In the future, I would try to be upfront with customers when there are delays so they understand why things aren’t going as planned.”

16. You would be responsible for testing software before release, what tools would you use to test?

This question is an opportunity to show your technical knowledge and experience with testing software. You can list the tools you would use for testing, but it’s also important to explain how they work and what their benefits are.

Example: “I have used several different types of testing tools in my previous roles. I find that automated testing tools like Selenium are useful because they allow me to test a website or application across multiple browsers without having to manually enter commands each time. This saves time and allows me to focus on other aspects of the project. Another tool I’ve used is JMeter, which is more complex than Selenium but offers more advanced features.”

17. Can you tell us about a time when you received negative feedback from a client?

This question can help interviewers learn more about your problem-solving skills and how you respond to challenges. When answering this question, it can be helpful to share a specific example of when you received negative feedback from a client and what steps you took to resolve the issue.

Example: “When I first started working as an event planner, I was organizing a large corporate party for a client who had very specific ideas about what they wanted at their event. During the planning process, I would often send my client updates on the progress of the event and any changes that were made. One day, my client called me and told me that she wasn’t happy with some of the changes I made to her event. She also said that she felt like I didn’t care about her needs.

I apologized to my client and explained that I did care about her event and that I was simply trying to make sure everything went smoothly. After our conversation, we agreed on a compromise and worked together to create a successful event.”

18. What is the most important part of the software development life cycle?

The software development life cycle is a process that developers use to create new applications. The interviewer may ask this question to see if you understand the importance of each phase in the process and how it can affect your work. Use your answer to highlight your understanding of the phases and how they relate to one another.

Example: “The most important part of the software development life cycle is the design phase. This is when I get to collaborate with my team members to come up with an idea for the application we’re creating. During this phase, I also research what other companies have done in similar situations so that I can incorporate their best practices into our own project.”

19. What are some things you do to ensure quality in your work?

This question can help the interviewer get a better idea of your attention to detail and how you ensure quality in your work. Use examples from previous jobs where you implemented processes or procedures that helped improve quality, customer service or efficiency.

Example: “I always make sure I have all the necessary information before starting any project. This helps me avoid mistakes and ensures I deliver high-quality results on time. In my last job, I was tasked with creating an online menu for a restaurant. Before I started designing the website, I researched what colors would be most appealing to customers and which fonts were easiest to read. These small details helped me create a more visually appealing website while also making it easy for customers to navigate.”

20. What made you apply for this position?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your interest in their company. Before you apply for a job, it’s important to research the company and understand what they do. This will help you decide if you’re interested in working there. When answering this question, try to mention something specific that caught your attention.

Example: “I applied for this position because I was intrigued by the company’s commitment to customer service.
