Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most common way to showcase your experience on a resume, but they don’t have to be boring or generic. You can use them to tell a story about your work experience and provide specific details about what you did and the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “provided care for elderly residents,” you could say that you “provided daily care for six elderly residents with Alzheimer’s disease, bathing, dressing, feeding, and providing emotional support.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of the type of work you did and the level of care required. It also provides specific numbers about the number of people you cared for and the level of care required.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for specific terms related to the job opening in order to determine whether or not you have the skills and experience necessary for the role.

If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right keywords, the ATS might filter out your application. That’s why it’s important to include relevant keywords throughout all sections of your resume.
