How to Write a BIM Modeler Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the first thing recruiters and hiring managers will read. And they’re the best way to showcase your experience and skills.

But many job seekers make the mistake of using generic bullet points that don’t really tell a story or provide any context about their experience.

Instead, you should use your bullet points to tell a story about your work. And that story should be as specific as possible. For example, rather than saying you “developed 3D models,” you could say you “developed 3D models for new manufacturing facility in accordance with client specifications, resulting in zero code violations during construction.”

The second bullet point provides much more detail about the project and the outcome. And it provides a clear example of how your work helped the client and impacted the project.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a job as a BIM modeler, your resume is usually scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. ATS programs rank resumes based on how many of the relevant keywords are found within the document.

Because most ATS programs are designed to scan for specific job-related keywords, it’s important to include them on your resume. You can find a list of common BIM modeling keywords below, or you can use our resume builder to have

  • BIM
  • Revit

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a BIM modeler, you need to be proficient in the use of various software programs in order to create accurate 3D models of buildings and other structures. Some of the most commonly used programs include Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, and Bentley MicroStation. Additionally, you need to have a solid understanding of BIM concepts and how to apply them in the real world.

Including your technical skills on your resume is essential, as it shows potential employers that you have the necessary skills and experience to do the job. Be sure to list all of the relevant programs and systems that you are familiar with, as well as your level of expertise.
