ComPsych Interview Process

The interview process at ComPsych can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most positions will require a phone screening with a recruiter, followed by one or more interviews. You may also be asked to take a test, such as a Wonderlic Cognitive Test, and/or participate in a role-playing activity. The entire process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

1. Tell me about a time when you had to make an unpopular decision.

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of how you handle conflict and criticism. It also helps them understand your decision-making process. In your answer, try to explain why you made that particular choice and what steps you took to ensure it was successful.

Example: “In my last position as a school psychologist, I had to make the unpopular decision to remove a student from their classroom for disruptive behavior. The student’s parents were upset with this decision, but I explained to them that removing the student would allow other students to learn more effectively. They eventually agreed with my decision after I assured them we could provide an alternative learning environment for their child.”

2. How would you handle a difficult customer?

This question can help interviewers assess your interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure. When answering, it can be helpful to describe a specific situation in which you handled a difficult customer with tact and professionalism.

Example: “I once had a client who was very upset about the diagnosis I gave them. They were convinced that they didn’t have the disorder I diagnosed them with, so they refused to take their medication. I listened to their concerns and explained why I believed they did have this disorder. I also told them that if they continued to refuse treatment, we would need to discharge them from our care. After hearing my explanation, they agreed to continue taking their medication.”

3. What are some of the challenges that you think ComPsych will face in the future?

This question is a great way to see how you can apply your critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. It also shows the interviewer that you are aware of current issues in the field and have opinions on them. When answering this question, it’s important to be respectful of other professionals and their work.

Example: “I think one of the biggest challenges ComPsych will face in the future is finding qualified candidates for positions. There are so many people who want to get into this field but don’t know where to start. I would love to help develop programs that teach students about mental health at an early age so they can learn more about what they can do with their lives.”

4. Explain your knowledge of FMLA and ADA regulations.

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are two federal regulations that employers must follow. These laws protect employees from discrimination based on their medical conditions or disabilities. ComPsych professionals need to understand these regulations so they can help clients who may be affected by them. In your answer, explain how you would apply the FMLA and ADA in your work as a comPsych professional.

Example: “I have worked with many clients who were covered under both the FMLA and ADA. I am familiar with the processes for requesting time off under each law. I also know how to support my clients when they feel like their rights are being violated. 5. Why do you want to work at ComPsych?

6. Do you have experience working with FMLA and/or ADA claims?

ComPsych professionals may be required to work with FMLA and ADA claims. These are two laws that protect employees from discrimination based on medical conditions or pregnancy. An interviewer may ask this question to see if you have experience working with these types of cases in the past. If you do, share a specific example of how you handled it. If you don’t, explain what you would do if faced with one of these situations.

7. What is your motivation for choosing this career path?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you better and understand why you are passionate about this career. Your answer should include a brief description of what drew you to this field, including any personal experiences that influenced your decision.

Example: “I chose this career path because I have always been interested in helping others. When I was younger, my neighbor had some mental health issues and would often scream at her children. One day, she started screaming at them while they were playing outside, so I went over to see if I could help. She told me that she didn’t feel like she could be a good mother anymore, but after talking with her for a little bit, I realized that she just needed someone to listen to her. After our conversation, she felt much calmer and decided to call her doctor.”

8. When was the last time you were faced with a conflict, how did you approach it?

This question is a great way to assess your problem-solving skills and ability to work with others. It also allows the interviewer to see how you handle conflict in general, which can be an important part of working as a comptroller. When answering this question, it’s best to focus on a specific example that highlights your interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflicts.

Example: “I was once faced with a conflict between two coworkers who were both vying for the same promotion. I met with each person separately to hear their side of the story and then brought them together to discuss the issue. After hearing both sides, we came up with a compromise where one employee would get the promotion but the other would receive a raise.”

9. Have you ever been fired from a job? If yes, why?

If you have been fired, be honest about why it happened and what you learned from the experience. If you haven’t been fired, explain a time when you were disappointed with your performance at work.

10. How well do you manage multiple tasks at once?

ComPsych professionals often have to manage multiple tasks at once. This question helps the interviewer determine how well you can multitask and prioritize your work. Use examples from previous experiences where you’ve successfully managed multiple projects or assignments at one time.

Example: “In my last role, I had to complete a lot of paperwork while also meeting with clients. I found that using an online calendar helped me stay organized and keep track of all my appointments. I would schedule each client’s appointment in advance so I knew when I could take breaks between sessions. I also used the calendar to remind myself when certain documents were due. This system helped me meet deadlines for both my clients and my employer.”

11. Describe a time where you received negative feedback on a project.

Interviewers may ask this question to see how you respond to constructive criticism. This can be an important skill for a comPsych professional, as they often provide feedback to their clients. In your answer, try to show that you can take feedback and use it to improve yourself.

Example: “When I was in college, I had a professor who gave me negative feedback on every assignment I turned in. At first, I took the feedback personally, but eventually realized she was just trying to help me learn. I started asking her questions after class about what I could do better. 12. What do you know about ComPsych’s history and culture?

When answering this question, try to show that you are passionate about the field and understand what ComPsych has done for it.

Example: “I know that ComPsych was founded by Dr. John Calhoun in the 1960s. He believed that mental health professionals needed their own certification because they were not being recognized as experts in the medical community. I also know that he wanted to create an organization that would be inclusive of all people, regardless of race or gender. In fact, he created the first board of directors that included both men and women.

He also made sure that there were equal numbers of white and black members on the board. This was quite progressive at the time, especially since many organizations had no minorities on their boards.”

13. What are your long term goals?

This question is a great way to learn more about the candidate’s career goals. It can also help you determine if they are looking for a long-term position or just a short-term job. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention your educational background and how you plan on using that in your future career.

Example: “My long term goal is to become a licensed psychologist. I am currently working toward my master’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in counseling. I hope to use this experience as a stepping stone into a full-time role where I can continue to grow professionally.”

14. Can you tell me about a time when you had to be very strategic in order to meet all your top priorities?

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of how you prioritize your work and manage competing priorities. Use examples from previous roles to highlight your ability to multitask, meet deadlines and balance competing responsibilities.

Example: “In my last role as a comptroller for an accounting firm, I had to be very strategic in order to meet all my top priorities while also ensuring that our clients were receiving timely financial reports. One of my main priorities was to ensure that we met all client reporting deadlines on time. Another priority was to maintain accurate records so that we could accurately report revenue and expenses. Finally, another important responsibility was to make sure that our team members were able to complete their tasks efficiently.”

15. Are you comfortable working independently?

ComPsych professionals often work independently, so the interviewer wants to know if you can complete tasks without much supervision. Show that you are a self-starter by explaining how you plan your day and manage your time effectively.

Example: “I am comfortable working independently because I have done it for many years. In my last position, I was responsible for scheduling appointments with clients, creating treatment plans and monitoring their progress. I also regularly communicated with my supervisor about any issues or concerns I had regarding my patients. I find that having regular communication with my supervisors helps me feel more confident in my abilities.”

16. How would you prioritize projects based on deadlines?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you prioritize your work and manage deadlines. Use examples from previous experience to explain how you plan out your projects and meet important deadlines.

Example: “I would first look at all of my current projects, then I’d create a list of which ones are due soonest. Then, I’d check with my supervisor or manager to see if they have any preferences on what should be done first. After that, I’d start working on the most urgent project while also making sure I’m meeting other deadlines for smaller tasks within each project. This helps me stay organized and ensures I don’t forget about smaller tasks.”

17. We’re looking for someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. Would you say that you are able to thrive in a fast-paced environment?

This question is an opportunity to show your interviewer that you are comfortable working in a busy environment. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention how you stay organized and prioritize tasks when working in a fast-paced environment.

Example: “I would say that I thrive in a fast-paced environment. In my previous role as a comptroller, I was responsible for managing the finances of the company while also ensuring that all financial reports were submitted on time. This required me to work quickly but efficiently so that I could meet deadlines and ensure accuracy. I am confident that I can do the same here.”

18. Tell us about a time when you made a mistake and what you learned from it.

Employers ask this question to learn more about your problem-solving skills and how you react when faced with a challenge. When answering, try to focus on the steps you took to resolve the issue or mistake and what you learned from it.

Example: “When I first started working as a compsych nurse, I was so focused on helping my patients that I didn’t always document everything in their files. One day, I had a patient who needed an emergency procedure, but I couldn’t find any information about his previous diagnosis or treatment plan. I immediately contacted my supervisor, who helped me locate the missing documents. From then on, I made sure to write down all of my observations and keep detailed notes in each patient’s file.”

19. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your personality and how you view yourself. They want to know that you are self-aware, so it’s important to be honest in your answer. When answering this question, try to focus on strengths rather than weaknesses.

Example: “I am a very empathetic person who is good at building relationships with others. I also have excellent communication skills, which helps me explain things clearly to patients. My weakness is that sometimes I get too invested in my patients’ lives. This means I can feel overwhelmed when they’re having a hard time. To overcome this, I make sure to set boundaries with my patients and take care of myself.”

20. Give an example of a time when you worked under pressure and met a tight deadline.

Interviewers ask this question to see how you handle pressure and deadlines. They want to know that you can work well under stress, prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines. In your answer, explain the situation, what you did and the results of your actions.

Example: “In my last position as a comPsych nurse, I had a patient who was experiencing severe anxiety. The patient’s family members were in town for an important event, so they wanted their loved one to be feeling better by then. I worked with the patient on calming techniques and helped them practice these skills before the family arrived. By the time the family came to visit, the patient was much calmer than when they first arrived.”
