Due to the length of the absence, ESL universally requires a formal process of medical certification. This documentation must confirm the necessity of the long-term absence and is reviewed by the employer’s Human Resources department or a specialized third-party administrator.
Eligibility Requirements for Extended Sick Leave
Qualification for extended sick leave centers on the medical necessity of the absence. Employees must secure documentation from a licensed healthcare provider certifying their inability to perform job functions and confirming the expected recovery duration. This required medical certification serves as the foundation for the leave request.
The medical condition must generally meet a minimum time threshold, often defined by the employer’s policy or relevant regulations. Many frameworks require an employee to be incapacitated for more than three consecutive days to qualify for long-term absence policies. Understanding Compensation During Extended Leave
