You can update your Google Business listing directly from Google Search or Google Maps, with most changes going live within minutes. The key requirement: you need to be signed in to the Google Account linked to your Business Profile. From there, you can edit your hours, address, photos, posts, and other details without any separate dashboard or app.
Access Your Profile for Editing
There are two ways to reach your editing tools, depending on whether you’re on a computer or your phone.
On a desktop or laptop, go to Google Search and search for your business name while signed in to your linked Google Account. Your Business Profile management panel will appear, and you can click “Edit profile” to start making changes.
On a mobile device, open the Google Maps app, tap “Business” at the bottom right of the screen, then tap “Edit profile.” This takes you to the same set of editing options. Both paths lead to the same place, so use whichever is more convenient.
Update Your Hours, Address, and Basic Info
Once you’ve selected “Edit profile,” you’ll see tabs for different categories of business information. To change your operating hours, tap the “Hours” tab in the upper right area, then tap the pencil (edit) icon and select “Open with main hours.” From here, you can adjust your regular schedule, add special hours for holidays, or mark specific days as closed.
Your address, phone number, website, and business description all live under the “Business information” section. Tap into any field you want to change, make your update, and hit “Save.” Most routine edits like correcting a phone number or updating a website URL go through quickly. Google reviews these changes to confirm accuracy, but the process typically takes under 10 minutes.
Add Photos and Videos
Visual content makes a significant difference in how your listing performs. Customers browsing Google Maps and Search results see your photos before they ever click through to your website, so keeping them current is worth the effort.
To add new images, go to your Business Profile, look for the photos section, and upload directly. You can add interior shots, exterior photos, product images, team pictures, or anything that represents what a customer would experience. Videos work the same way. Remove outdated images that no longer reflect your business, like old signage or a previous layout.
Create Posts to Share Updates and Offers
Google lets you publish short posts that appear on your Business Profile, similar to social media updates. These are useful for announcing promotions, events, or general news. To create one, go to your profile, select “Posts,” then “Add post.”
You’ll choose from three post types:
- Updates: General business news. You can include a description, photo or video, and an action button with a link.
- Offers: Promotional deals that require a title and date range. Google automatically adds a “View Offer” button. You can also attach a coupon code, terms and conditions, and media.
- Events: Promote something happening at your business with a title, start date, and end date. If you skip the time fields, the event displays as lasting 24 hours.
You can schedule posts to publish at a later date and set them to repeat on a weekly, monthly, or custom schedule. One thing to avoid: don’t include phone numbers in your post descriptions, as Google may reject them. Also keep in mind that posts older than six months get archived unless they have a specific date range attached.
To edit or delete an existing post, go to “Posts,” find the one you want to change, select “More,” and choose either “Edit” or “Delete.”
What Happens After You Save Changes
Google reviews every edit you make to a verified Business Profile to check that it follows their guidelines and can be confirmed as accurate. Most edits clear review in under 10 minutes. In some cases, though, the review can take up to 30 days, particularly if Google can’t easily verify the information you’ve submitted.
Your edit will show one of two statuses while it’s being processed. “Pending” means it’s still under review. “Not approved” means Google couldn’t confirm the accuracy of what you submitted. If your edit gets rejected, you can appeal the decision through your profile.
Edits That Trigger Re-Verification
Most updates go through smoothly, but changing your business name is different. Name changes on established profiles almost always trigger a re-verification process, even if the change is minor, like fixing a typo or updating a legal suffix. This means Google may temporarily restrict your profile while it confirms the new name is legitimate.
If you get stuck in a verification loop after a name change, give it 48 to 72 hours for Google to respond. If nothing happens in that window, you can post your case ID in the Google Business Profile Community forum, where product experts can escalate the issue. Plan name changes carefully and avoid making them unless necessary, since the re-verification delay can temporarily reduce your visibility in search results.
Managing Multiple Locations
If you operate more than one location, you can push the same post to multiple Business Profiles at once. When you create a post and select “Post,” Google gives you the option to choose which profiles should receive it. Select the ones you want, then publish. This saves time if you’re running a promotion or sharing news that applies across all your locations.
For edits to core business details like hours or address, you’ll need to update each location’s profile individually, since those details are unique to each storefront or office.
