Becoming a military pilot is a demanding career path, requiring a combination of intellectual ability, physical fitness, and dedication. Meet the Basic Eligibility Requirements

Before a candidate can be considered for a pilot slot, several foundational requirements must be met. These criteria serve as the initial screening process for all applicants. The primary requirement is United States citizenship, as individuals who are permanent residents but not full citizens are not eligible for commissioning as an officer, a necessary step to becoming a pilot.

A four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is another mandatory requirement. While the specific major is often flexible, degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) can be advantageous. This provides a strong foundation for the technical aspects of flight training, and coursework in physics or computer science can be helpful.

Age is a significant factor, with specific windows for both commissioning and the start of flight training.
