How to Cancel Your Primerica Life Insurance Policy

To cancel your Primerica life insurance policy, call Client Services directly at 1(800) 257-4725. A representative will walk you through the process and confirm your cancellation. You do not need to go through your local Primerica agent, and there is no cancellation fee.

What to Have Ready Before You Call

When you call Client Services, you’ll move through the process faster if you have a few things in front of you. Pull up your policy number, which appears on your original policy documents and on any correspondence Primerica has mailed you. You’ll also need to verify your identity with personal details like your full name, date of birth, and the address on file.

If someone else is the policy owner (for example, a spouse purchased the policy on your life), that person is the one who needs to make the call. Only the policy owner can authorize a cancellation.

Canceling by Written Request

If you prefer not to call, you can send a written cancellation request to Primerica’s home office. Include your full name, policy number, a clear statement that you want to cancel the policy, and your signature. Mail it to:

Primerica Life Insurance Company
1 Primerica Parkway
Duluth, GA 30099

Send the letter by certified mail with return receipt requested so you have proof of when Primerica received it. Keep a copy for your records. Written requests can take longer to process than a phone call, so follow up if you haven’t received confirmation within two to three weeks.

The Free Look Period

If you recently purchased your policy, you may still be within the “free look” period. This is a window, typically 10 to 30 days after you receive your policy documents (the exact length depends on your state), during which you can cancel and receive a full refund of any premiums you’ve paid. If you’re within this window, mention it when you call Client Services or note it in your written request.

What Happens to Premiums You’ve Already Paid

Primerica sells term life insurance, which does not build cash value the way whole life or universal life policies do. That means there is no accumulated balance to withdraw or roll over when you cancel. Once your cancellation is processed, your coverage ends and no further premiums will be drafted from your account.

If your cancellation is processed partway through a billing cycle, ask the representative whether you’re entitled to a prorated refund for the unused portion of that period. Get the answer in writing or make a note of the representative’s name and confirmation number.

Stop Automatic Payments

Most Primerica policyholders pay premiums through automatic bank drafts. When you cancel, confirm with the representative the exact date the drafts will stop. If a payment is scheduled before the cancellation fully processes, ask whether it will be refunded.

As a safeguard, check your bank statements for one to two months after cancellation to make sure no additional drafts go through. If one does, contact Client Services with your cancellation confirmation to dispute it.

If You’re Replacing Your Coverage

If you’re switching to a policy with another insurer, do not cancel your Primerica policy until the new policy is fully issued and in force. Life insurance applications involve underwriting, which can take several weeks, and there’s always a chance you could be declined or offered different terms. Canceling your existing coverage before the replacement is locked in leaves you uninsured during the gap.

Once you have written confirmation that your new policy is active, then call Primerica to cancel. Overlap by a few days if needed. Paying one extra premium is far less costly than being caught without coverage.

Getting Confirmation

Whether you cancel by phone or by mail, ask for written confirmation that your policy has been terminated and note the effective date of cancellation. If you cancel by phone, request that confirmation be sent to you by email or mail. Keep this document indefinitely. It protects you if there’s ever a billing dispute or a question about when your coverage ended.
