How to Check Your Target Credit Card Balance Online

You can check your Target Circle credit card balance online through your Target account, by calling the automated phone line, or through the Target app. The fastest method depends on whether you’re at home, in a store, or on the go.

Check Your Balance Online

Log in to your Target account at target.com and navigate to your Target Circle Card section. Your current balance, available credit, minimum payment due, and payment due date are all displayed on your account dashboard. If you haven’t linked your card to your online account yet, you’ll need your card number and the personal information you used when you applied.

Check Your Balance in the Target App

The Target app shows your card balance once you’ve signed in with the same account tied to your credit card. Open the app, tap on your account, and look for your Target Circle Card details. The app displays the same information as the website, including recent transactions and your next payment date. This is the most convenient option if you’re standing in a store trying to decide whether you have enough available credit before checking out.

Check Your Balance by Phone

Target runs two separate phone lines depending on which card you carry. For the Target Circle Credit Card (the store-only card), call 1-800-424-6888. For the Target Circle Mastercard (the version accepted everywhere Mastercard is taken), call 1-612-815-9922. Both lines have automated systems that can read your balance, available credit, and recent payment information without waiting for a representative. You’ll need your card number or the last four digits of your Social Security number to verify your identity.

Check Your Balance on a Paper Statement

If you still receive paper statements, your balance as of the statement closing date is printed near the top along with your minimum payment and due date. Keep in mind this number may not reflect purchases or payments made after the closing date. If you’ve used the card since your last statement arrived, the online or phone methods will give you a more current figure.

Text Alerts for the Reloadable Card

If you carry the Target Circle Card Reloadable (a prepaid card, not the credit card), you can check your balance by texting BAL or BALANCE to 79787. You can also text HIST or HISTORY to see recent transactions. To set up ongoing alerts for low balances or when money is added, opt in through the Target Circle Card Reloadable site. These text commands only work for the reloadable prepaid card, not the credit card or Mastercard versions. If you need help with the reloadable card specifically, call 1-833-840-4332.

Understanding What You See

When you pull up your balance, you’ll typically see two numbers that matter. Your current balance is the total amount you owe, including any charges that haven’t been billed yet. Your statement balance is the amount from your last billing cycle, and that’s the number you need to pay by the due date to avoid interest charges. If you pay the full statement balance each month, you won’t owe any interest even though your current balance might be higher due to new purchases.

Your available credit is simply your credit limit minus your current balance. If your limit is $2,000 and your current balance is $750, you have $1,250 available to spend. Pending transactions (charges that haven’t fully processed yet) can reduce your available credit before they show up in your posted balance, so the two numbers won’t always add up perfectly.
