You can delete your GCash account by submitting a request through the GCash app’s Help Center or by contacting GCash support directly. The process isn’t a simple one-tap action, and there are a few things you need to take care of before your account can be closed.
What to Do Before You Request Deletion
GCash will not close an account that still has money in it or active financial products tied to it. Before you start the deletion process, work through this checklist:
- Withdraw or transfer your remaining balance. Send your GCash balance to a bank account, another GCash user, or cash out at an agent. Your balance needs to be zero.
- Close linked savings and investment accounts. If you opened a GSave savings account or a GInvest account through the app, withdraw those funds and close the accounts first. These are separate financial products that won’t automatically shut down when your GCash wallet closes.
- Pay off any outstanding GLoans. If you borrowed through GCash’s lending feature, your loan balance must be fully settled before the account can be deleted.
- Check for pending transactions. Make sure no incoming transfers, refunds, or cashback rewards are still processing. A pending transaction can block the closure.
How to Request Account Deletion
Open the GCash app and navigate to the Help Center, which you can find under your profile or account settings. From there, submit a request to delete or close your account. You will need to confirm your identity and verify that you are the registered owner of the account.
If you cannot access the app (for example, you no longer have the registered SIM card or phone), you can reach GCash support through their official channels: the GCash Help Center website, their verified social media accounts, or by calling their customer service hotline. Be prepared to verify your identity with personal details tied to your account, such as your full name, registered mobile number, and any identification documents you used during verification.
GCash support will review your request and confirm once the account has been deactivated. Response times vary, but expect the process to take several business days.
What Happens to Your Data
Deleting your GCash account does not mean your personal information disappears immediately. Under Philippine law (Republic Act 9160, the Anti-Money Laundering Act), GCash is required to retain your account data for five years after closure. This includes transaction records, identity verification documents, and account details. After the five-year retention period, your data is deleted.
This is a legal requirement that applies to all regulated financial institutions in the Philippines, so there is no way to request faster data removal.
If You Lost Access to Your SIM or Phone
Losing the mobile number registered to your GCash account makes deletion trickier since you cannot receive OTP codes to log in. In this situation, contact GCash support directly and explain that you no longer have access to your registered number. You will likely need to provide identity verification, such as a valid government ID matching the name on the account, to prove ownership before they process any changes.
If your old SIM was deactivated by your mobile carrier and you have no way to recover the number, mention this when you contact support. They have a process for handling accounts tied to inactive numbers, though it may take longer than a standard deletion request.
Before You Delete: Consider Deactivation Instead
If you are unsure whether you will need GCash again, keep in mind that deleting your account is permanent. You may want to simply remove your balance and stop using the app rather than going through the full deletion process. An inactive account with a zero balance costs you nothing.
However, if your concern is security or privacy (for example, your phone was stolen and you worry about unauthorized access), deletion is the right move. In the meantime, contact GCash support immediately to have your account locked so no one can make transactions while the deletion request is being processed.
