Your Venmo ID for receiving money is your username, which starts with the @ symbol. You can find it by opening the Venmo app, tapping the “Me” tab, and looking at the name displayed on your profile. That @ username is what you share with anyone who wants to send you a payment.
How to Find Your Venmo Username
Open the Venmo app on your phone and tap the “Me” tab (sometimes shown as a person icon) at the bottom of the screen. Your username appears on your profile page, formatted as @YourName. This is the primary identifier other people use to look you up and send you money.
If you want to check or change your username, go to Settings from the Me tab. Venmo usernames must be between 5 and 30 characters, and the only special characters allowed are hyphens and underscores. Keep it simple and recognizable so people can find you easily when you share it.
Other Ways People Can Send You Money
Your @ username isn’t the only way someone can find you on Venmo. When another person taps the search bar to send a payment, they can look you up by your name, your phone number, or your email address. All three work as long as that phone number or email is verified on your Venmo account.
This is an important detail: if someone sends money to a phone number or email that isn’t verified on the right account, the payment could go to the wrong person. Before you give out your phone number or email as your Venmo ID, make sure it’s verified in your account settings. Your @ username is generally the safest option to share because it’s unique to you.
Sharing Your QR Code
Venmo also gives you a personal QR code that works like a visual version of your username. To find it, go to the Me tab and tap the QR code icon next to your profile picture. You can show this code on your screen to anyone nearby, and they scan it with their Venmo app to pull up your profile and send a payment instantly.
This is especially useful in person, since it eliminates the risk of someone mistyping your username or searching for the wrong person. You can also save or screenshot the QR code to text it, email it, or post it wherever you need to collect payments.
What to Share When Asking for Payment
When someone asks for your Venmo ID, the simplest answer is your @ username. You can text it, drop it in a group chat, or say it out loud. For example, if your username is @Jane-Smith, just tell the sender to search for that exact handle in the Venmo app.
If you’d rather not share your username publicly, your phone number or email works as an alternative. And for quick in-person exchanges, pulling up your QR code is the fastest route. All three methods point to the same account and deposit money in the same place.
If You Have a Business Profile
Venmo business profiles have their own username, separate from your personal account. Customers can find your business by searching for your business name or username in the Venmo app or on the Venmo website. Search results can be filtered to show only businesses, which makes it easier for customers to locate you.
For your business to appear in those search results, the “Search” marketing feature needs to be enabled. It’s turned on by default for new business profiles, but you can confirm this by going to your business profile settings and tapping “Market your business profile.” If you’re collecting payments for a side business or freelance work, using a business profile keeps those transactions separate from your personal activity.
