How to Get Money Off Venmo Without a Card

The simplest way to get money off Venmo without a card is to transfer your balance directly to a linked bank account. You don’t need a debit card or credit card to do this. A standard bank transfer is completely free and typically arrives within one to three business days. Beyond bank transfers, there are a few other options worth knowing about.

Transfer to Your Bank Account for Free

This is the most straightforward method. Venmo sends your money to your bank through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network, the same system used for direct deposits and bill payments. It costs nothing, and the money typically lands in your account within one business day, though it can take up to three business days in some cases. Weekends and U.S. bank holidays don’t count toward that timeline.

To set this up, open the Venmo app, go to your Me tab, and tap “Transfer to Bank.” You’ll need to link a checking or savings account first if you haven’t already. Venmo uses Plaid to connect to most major banks instantly. You sign in with your online banking credentials, and the link is confirmed right away.

If your bank isn’t supported by Plaid, you can add it manually using your routing and account numbers. Venmo will then send two small deposits and two small withdrawals (each under $1) to your bank account within one to three business days. Once those show up on your statement, go back to the app, tap the unconfirmed bank in your Wallet section, and enter the exact amounts to verify ownership. Make sure you have at least $2 in the account so the micro-transactions don’t trigger overdraft fees.

Transfer Limits to Know About

How much you can move depends on whether you’ve completed identity verification with Venmo. Without it, you’re capped at $999.99 per rolling week. After verifying your identity (which involves confirming your legal name, date of birth, and Social Security number), that limit jumps to $19,999.99 per rolling week. Individual transfers max out at $5,000, so if you need to move more than that, you’ll need to do it in multiple transfers of $5,000 or less.

These are rolling weekly limits, meaning each transfer counts against your limit for exactly seven days from the time you initiated it, not on a fixed calendar week.

Pay for an Instant Transfer Without a Card

If you need the money faster than one to three business days, Venmo offers instant transfers that typically arrive within 30 minutes. Here’s the part most people miss: instant transfers can go to an eligible bank account, not just a debit card. The fee is 1.75% of the transfer amount, with a minimum charge of $0.25 and a maximum of $25. So transferring $500 instantly would cost you $8.75, while transferring $1,500 or more would cap the fee at $25.

After you initiate a standard (free) transfer, you also have a one-hour window to upgrade it to an instant transfer if you change your mind. Look for the “Get it faster” option under your pending transfer on the Me tab in the app. This option is only available in the Venmo mobile app, not on the website.

Use Your Venmo Balance at Checkout

You don’t necessarily have to transfer money out of Venmo to spend it. When you shop at merchants that accept Venmo as a payment method, you can pay directly from your Venmo balance. This works both online and in stores through supported checkout options. Many major retailers and apps now accept Venmo at checkout, letting you spend your balance without moving it to a bank first.

If you pay someone else on Venmo (a friend, a landlord, a service provider who uses the app), your balance works there too. The money never needs to leave Venmo at all in those cases.

What You Can’t Do Without a Card

A few withdrawal methods do require a card. Adding your Venmo account to Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay requires entering the details of a Venmo debit or credit card, so that route is off the table if you don’t have one. ATM withdrawals similarly require the Venmo debit card.

But for most people who just want their Venmo balance in their bank account, neither of those matters. The free standard bank transfer handles the job without any card involved. Link your bank account, tap transfer, and the money shows up in your checking or savings account within a few days.
