You can transfer SeatGeek tickets to another person using the Send feature inside your SeatGeek account. The recipient doesn’t need an existing SeatGeek account to receive them. You just need their email address or phone number, and they’ll get a notification with instructions to claim the tickets.
How to Send Tickets on SeatGeek
Open the SeatGeek app or log in on the website and navigate to your Tickets section. Find the event you want to transfer, then look for the Send option on that ticket listing. You’ll be prompted to enter the recipient’s email address or phone number.
Once you confirm the transfer, SeatGeek sends the recipient a notification by push notification, text, or email, depending on the contact info you provided and any account settings they have. That notification includes a prompt to accept the tickets. If they already have a SeatGeek account, the tickets land directly in their account once accepted. If they don’t, they’ll be walked through creating one.
You can send individual tickets from a group if you only want to transfer some of your seats. This is useful when you’re splitting tickets among friends attending the same event.
What the Recipient Needs to Do
The person receiving your tickets will get a notification letting them know a transfer is pending. They tap or click through to accept, and the tickets appear in their SeatGeek account. If they’ve never used SeatGeek before, the process walks them through setting up a free account first. There’s no fee for the recipient to accept a transfer.
Make sure you enter the correct email or phone number. If the notification goes to the wrong person, they could potentially claim your tickets. Double-check the contact info before confirming.
Why the Send Button Might Be Missing
If you don’t see the option to send or transfer your tickets, a few things could be causing it. The most common reason is that the barcodes haven’t been released yet. Many venues and leagues delay barcode delivery until closer to the event date or the start of the season, which means you can’t transfer tickets until the barcodes are available in your account.
Other reasons the transfer option might not appear:
- Unpaid balance on a season ticket invoice. If you owe money on a season package, transfers may be locked until the balance is settled. Contact your team rep to resolve it.
- Unverified phone number. SeatGeek requires a verified mobile phone number for security. Check your account settings to confirm your number is verified.
- Event-level restrictions. Some tickets are not eligible for individual transfer or resale, depending on the venue or event organizer’s policies.
If none of these apply, try logging out and back in, or updating the app. Ticket delivery sometimes takes a few minutes to fully process after a purchase.
Tickets Linked to MLB Ballpark or Other Partner Apps
SeatGeek partners with leagues like MLB, and some tickets require linking your SeatGeek account to a league-specific platform like MLB Ballpark before barcodes appear. If you bought MLB tickets on SeatGeek but your barcodes aren’t showing up, you likely need to connect the two accounts.
To link your MLB account after buying tickets on SeatGeek, go to the Tickets section in your SeatGeek account and tap “Create or link MLB account.” You’ll log in to your existing MLB Ballpark account (or create one), then authorize SeatGeek to connect. Use the same email address for both accounts to avoid issues. After linking, your tickets should appear in your SeatGeek account within a few minutes, and you’ll get a confirmation email once they’re ready.
If your MLB tickets were originally purchased elsewhere and live in MLB Ballpark, you can still bring them into SeatGeek. Go to your SeatGeek Tickets section, select “Add,” then “Link MLB Account,” choose your team, and approve the connection. Once linked, eligible tickets can be managed, transferred, or listed for resale through SeatGeek.
Other league or venue partnerships may work similarly. If tickets for a specific event require a linked account, SeatGeek typically displays a prompt guiding you through the process when you view those tickets.
Transferring vs. Selling Your Tickets
The Send feature is a free transfer, meaning no money changes hands through SeatGeek. You’re simply moving tickets from your account to someone else’s. If you want to get paid for your tickets instead, you’d list them for resale on SeatGeek’s marketplace, which is a separate process with its own requirements, including a verified phone number and a payout method on file.
Transfers are instant once the recipient accepts. Resale listings stay active until someone buys them or you remove them. If your plans change last minute and you just need to get tickets to a friend quickly, the Send feature is the faster route.
