You can turn off Open to Work on LinkedIn by going to your profile, clicking the edit icon on the Open to Work box, and selecting Delete. The whole process takes about 30 seconds, but there are a few extra steps if you also added the green photo frame to your profile picture.
Remove Open to Work on Desktop
Click the “Me” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage, then click “View profile.” Near the top of your profile, you’ll see an Open to Work box. Click the edit icon (the pencil) on that box. Scroll to the bottom of the panel that opens and click “Delete.” This removes the signal entirely, whether it was visible to all LinkedIn members or set to recruiters only.
Remove Open to Work on the Mobile App
The steps on the LinkedIn mobile app follow the same pattern. Tap your profile picture to open the menu, then tap “View profile.” Find the Open to Work section at the top of your profile, tap the edit icon, and tap “Delete” at the bottom of the screen. This works the same way on both iOS and Android.
Remove the Green Photo Frame
If you added the green “#OpenToWork” ring around your profile photo, deleting the Open to Work status may not automatically remove it. To get rid of the frame separately, go to your profile and click (or tap) directly on your profile photo. Select “Frames,” then choose “Original” to revert to your plain photo. Click “Apply.”
LinkedIn will then ask what you’d like to do with the existing frame. Choose “Remove ‘Open to Work’ from profile” if you want to fully disable the feature at the same time. If you already deleted the Open to Work status in the previous steps, simply selecting the original photo and applying it will strip the green ring.
Recruiter-Only vs. Public Visibility
If you don’t want to remove Open to Work entirely but just want to hide it from your broader network, you have a middle option. Edit the Open to Work section (same edit icon on your profile) and change the visibility setting to “Recruiters only.” This removes the green photo frame and the public banner while still signaling to recruiters using LinkedIn Recruiter that you’re open to opportunities.
LinkedIn says it takes steps to hide your signal from recruiters at your current company, though it can’t guarantee complete privacy. If even that level of visibility feels risky, deleting the feature entirely is the safest choice.
What Happens After You Turn It Off
Once you delete Open to Work, recruiters will no longer see the signal on your profile, and the green frame (if you removed it) disappears for everyone. Your profile otherwise stays exactly the same. None of your connections get notified that you turned it off. If you decide to job search again later, you can re-enable Open to Work at any time from the same spot on your profile.
