Cash App boosts are instant discounts that apply automatically when you pay with your Cash Card at qualifying merchants. A $100 boost typically means you can get up to $100 off a purchase, though the specific terms depend on which boost you’ve been offered. To use it, you need to activate the boost in your app before you swipe your card.
How to Activate the Boost
Open Cash App and tap the Cash Card icon from the main screen. This takes you to your card dashboard, where you’ll see a “Save With Boost” or “Explore offers” button. Tap it to browse every boost currently available to you.
Scroll through the list until you find the $100 boost. Tap on it to see the full details, including which merchants qualify, any minimum purchase requirement, and the expiration date. If everything looks right, tap “Activate Boost.” The boost is now loaded onto your Cash Card and will apply the next time you make an eligible purchase.
You can only have one boost active at a time. If you already have a different boost activated, adding the $100 boost will replace it. You can switch back and forth between boosts as many times as you want before they expire, so there’s no penalty for swapping.
Making the Purchase
Once the boost is activated, use your physical Cash Card or your Cash Card through a mobile wallet to pay at the qualifying merchant. The discount applies instantly at the point of sale. You’ll see the savings reflected in your Cash App transaction history right away.
Pay attention to any minimum purchase amount listed in the boost details. Some $100 boosts require you to spend a certain amount before the discount kicks in. For example, a boost might offer $100 off a $200 purchase at a specific retailer. If your transaction falls below that minimum, the boost won’t apply, though it will stay active for your next eligible purchase.
The boost only works with standard purchases. Cash-back transactions at the register don’t count and won’t trigger the discount. If you’re at a store where the terminal asks whether you want cash back, decline it for that transaction to make sure the boost applies correctly.
Checking the Expiration Date
Every boost has its own expiration date, and Cash App regularly rotates offers. A $100 boost is a high-value offer, and these tend to disappear faster than smaller ones. To check when yours expires, go to your Cash Card tab, tap “Explore offers,” and select the boost to view its details. The expiration date is listed there.
If a boost expires before you use it, it’s gone. Cash App replaces expired boosts with new ones, but there’s no guarantee a similar $100 offer will come back. Activate it and plan your purchase sooner rather than later.
Why the Boost Might Not Work
If you’ve activated the boost and it doesn’t apply at checkout, a few things could be going on. The most common issue is using the wrong payment method. The boost only works with your Cash Card, not with your Cash App balance sent as a peer-to-peer payment. You need to swipe, tap, or enter your Cash Card number.
Merchant name mismatches can also cause problems. Some businesses process payments under a parent company name that doesn’t match what you see on the boost. If the boost says it works at a specific store but your payment processes under a different merchant name, the discount may not trigger. Check your transaction details in the app to see how the charge posted.
Finally, make sure the boost is still active. If you accidentally activated a different boost after loading the $100 one, it got replaced. Go back to your Cash Card screen and confirm which boost is currently live before you pay.
Who Gets the $100 Boost
Not every Cash App user sees the same boosts. Cash App personalizes offers based on your spending habits, account history, and partnerships with merchants. The $100 boost you see in your app may not appear in someone else’s. There’s no way to request a specific boost or transfer one to another user.
You need a Cash Card to use any boost. If you haven’t ordered one yet, you can request a free card through the app. It typically arrives within two weeks. Until the card is active, you won’t be able to take advantage of any boost offers.
