How to View Your Discover Card Number Online

Discover does not let you view your full 16-digit card number online. As a security measure, Discover only displays the last four digits of your account number in your online account, the mobile app, and on monthly statements. The full number appears only on your physical card. This can be frustrating if your card is lost, damaged, or hasn’t arrived yet, but there are several ways to get the information you need.

Why Discover Hides the Full Number

Discover treats your credit card number and your account number as the same thing. To protect against fraud and theft, the company’s policy is that the full number only appears on the physical card itself. Any communication from Discover, including your online dashboard, paper statements, and digital statements, will show only the last four digits. This applies to both the website and the mobile app.

This is more restrictive than some other card issuers, which allow you to reveal your full card number through their app after verifying your identity. Discover has not added that feature.

How to Get Your Card Number

If you need your full Discover card number and don’t have your physical card handy, your best option is to call Discover’s customer service line at 1-800-347-2683. After verifying your identity, a representative can read your card number to you over the phone. You can also request a replacement card if yours is lost or damaged.

If your card simply hasn’t arrived yet, you may be able to get the number by calling the same line and explaining the situation. Discover typically ships new cards within 7 to 10 business days, but a phone representative can often provide your number before the card shows up in your mailbox.

Use a Digital Wallet as a Workaround

While you can’t see the raw card number online, you can still make purchases without your physical card by adding your Discover card to a digital wallet like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. Discover lets you do this directly from your online account or the mobile app without needing to type in your card number manually.

To set this up, log into the Discover mobile app and go to the Manage Cards and Devices tab on the Services screen. Select “Add Card,” and the app will pull in your card details automatically and link them to your phone’s digital wallet. You can also do this from the Discover website by navigating to “Manage Cards” and following the prompts. Once added, you can tap to pay at any retailer that accepts contactless payments, and you can use the digital wallet for online purchases as well.

This won’t show you the actual 16-digit number on screen, but it solves the most common reason people search for it: needing to make a purchase without the physical card in hand.

Where to Find Other Card Details

Your card number isn’t the only detail you might need. The expiration date and CVV (the three-digit security code on the back) are also restricted to the physical card. If you need any of these for an online purchase and don’t have your card, calling customer service is again the most reliable path.

Some details you can find in your online account include your current balance, available credit, payment due date, and transaction history. Your account settings also show the last four digits of your card, which is enough to identify which card is linked to various subscriptions or autopay services.

If Your Card Is Lost or Stolen

If the reason you’re trying to find your number online is that your card is missing, report it lost or stolen through the Discover app or website immediately. You can also call customer service. Discover will freeze the old number and issue a replacement card with a new number. You won’t be responsible for unauthorized charges made after the card went missing, and Discover’s $0 fraud liability policy means you’re not on the hook for unauthorized purchases even before you report it.

Keep in mind that when you get a new card number, you’ll need to update any automatic payments or subscriptions tied to the old one. Your online account will reflect the new number (last four digits) once the replacement card is issued.
