20 ITV Interview Questions and Answers

Prepare for the types of questions you are likely to be asked when interviewing for a position at ITV.

When it comes to interviews, every company has their own unique process. And while some questions may be universal, others will be specific to the company you’re interviewing with.

If you’re interviewing with ITV, you can expect to be asked about your experience with television production, as well as your thoughts on the current state of the industry. You may also be asked about your creative process, and how you approach problem-solving.

To help you prepare, we’ve compiled a list of sample ITV interview questions and answers. With these, you’ll be able to give thoughtful and impressive responses that will help you stand out from the rest of the candidates.

ITV Interview Process

The interview process at ITV can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most interviews will consist of an initial screening call with a recruiter, followed by one or more interviews with members of the team you would be working with. The difficulty of the interviews will depend on the role you are applying for, but in general they are looking for your interest in the company and the role, as well as your ability to fit into the team. The overall experience of the interview process is generally positive, with friendly and helpful recruiters. However, some applicants have found the process to be slow, with decisions taking weeks or even months.

1. How do you manage your time when working on multiple projects?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you prioritize your work and manage deadlines. Use examples from previous experience to show that you are organized, dependable and able to meet tight deadlines.

Example: “I have a calendar where I write down all of my tasks for the day. This helps me stay on track with multiple projects at once. In my last role, I was working on three different campaigns simultaneously. Each campaign had its own set of goals and objectives, but they were also connected in some way. For example, one campaign focused on increasing brand awareness while another focused on driving sales. By keeping these campaigns separate but related, I could focus on each project individually while still seeing results across all three.”

2. Do you have experience operating radio equipment?

This question is a way for the interviewer to assess your technical skills. If you have experience operating radio equipment, describe how you did it and what kind of results you achieved.

Example: “I worked as an audio engineer at my college radio station where I was responsible for recording live broadcasts and editing them into podcasts. I also had to record interviews with guests and edit those recordings into shows. In both cases, I used professional-grade software and hardware to achieve high-quality results.”

3. Have you worked with any of the software that we use here at ITV?

The interviewer may ask this question to see if you have experience with the software they use at ITV. If you haven’t worked with any of these programs, consider asking what other programs are used and how similar they are to ones you’ve used in the past.

Example: “I’ve never worked with Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects before, but I do have some experience using Final Cut Pro X and Avid Media Composer. While these two programs aren’t exactly the same as Premiere Pro and After Effects, I feel that my previous experience will help me learn the new programs quickly.”

4. What is your favorite TV show and why?

This question is a great way to learn more about your potential co-workers and their interests. It also gives you the opportunity to share something personal with them, which can help build rapport. When answering this question, try to pick a show that many of your interviewers would enjoy watching as well.

Example: “My favorite TV show is ‘The Great British Bake Off.’ I love how it’s not only entertaining but educational too. The contestants are so creative and passionate about baking, and I find myself learning new things every episode.”

5. Why do you want to work for ITV?

This question is an opportunity to show your enthusiasm for the role and why you are a good fit. When answering, it can be helpful to mention specific aspects of ITV that interest you or how you would like to contribute to the company’s success.

Example: “I am passionate about television and I love watching shows on ITV. I think you produce some of the best content in the industry, so I’m excited to work here. I also want to learn more about production and development, which is something I feel I could do well with your help.”

6. Are you able to commit to a long-term position?

This question is a way for the interviewer to assess your commitment level. It’s important that you show the interviewer that you’re willing to stay with the company for an extended period of time.

Example: “I’m looking for a long-term position, and I would love to work here at ITV for many years. I’ve always been passionate about media, and I feel like this company has so much potential. I know that if I were hired, I’d be committed to my job and do everything in my power to make sure I was successful.”

7. Describe a time where you saw an opportunity to improve a process, what did you do?

Interviewers may ask this question to learn more about your problem-solving skills and how you apply them in the workplace. Use examples from previous jobs where you saw a process that could be improved, implemented new processes or helped implement changes to improve efficiency.

Example: “In my last role as an account manager, I noticed that our team was spending too much time on client calls. We were taking notes during each call, which took up valuable time. I suggested we use voice recording software instead of taking notes by hand. This would allow us to focus more on what the client was saying rather than trying to write down everything they said. The company agreed, and it saved us a lot of time.”

8. Tell me about a recent project that was very memorable to you.

This question is a great way to learn more about the candidate’s personality and how they feel about their work. It also gives you insight into what projects they’ve worked on recently, which can help you determine if they’re qualified for the position.

Example: “I recently completed a project that was very memorable to me because it was my first time working with an entire team of people. I had never done anything like this before, so I was nervous at first but everyone was so welcoming and helpful. By the end of the project, we were all friends and even went out to celebrate together.”

9. What are some media outlets you follow regularly?

This question can help the interviewer get a sense of your media knowledge and how you stay up to date on current events. You can use this opportunity to show that you are passionate about news, entertainment or other topics related to the industry.

Example: “I follow several different outlets for my news, including The New York Times, NPR and CNN. I also enjoy watching late-night talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. For more lighthearted content, I love bingeing on Netflix series like Stranger Things and Black Mirror.”

10. Have you ever been involved in a conflict while managing a team, how did you handle it?

An interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your leadership skills. Use your answer to show that you can resolve conflicts and help your team members work together.

Example: “In my last role, I had a team of five people who worked on the same project. One day, one of my employees came into work late without notifying anyone. This caused our entire team to fall behind schedule for the day. When I asked why they were late, they said they forgot their computer at home. I decided to have a meeting with all of my employees to discuss how important it is to communicate when something like this happens again. We also created a system where each person would check in every morning before starting work.”

11. Which area of production do you feel most confident in?

This question is designed to give the interviewer insight into your skill set and how you view yourself as a producer. Your answer should highlight an area of production that you have experience in, but also one that you are passionate about.

Example: “I feel most confident in my ability to manage a team of producers and editors. I’ve worked with large teams before, and I know how to delegate tasks effectively so everyone can work efficiently. In my last role, I was responsible for managing a team of 10 producers and 20 editors, which taught me valuable lessons on delegation and time management.”

12. Can you tell us about a time where your communication skills helped prevent a problem or misunderstanding from getting worse?

This question can help the interviewer get a better idea of how you use your communication skills to solve problems and keep others calm. Use examples from previous roles where you helped resolve conflicts or misunderstandings with your ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Example: “In my last role, I was working on a project that required me to work closely with several other team members. One day, one of the team members came to me upset because they felt like their ideas weren’t being heard by the rest of the group. I asked them what they thought would be the best way to address this issue, and they said they wanted more time to explain their ideas in detail. So, we scheduled weekly meetings for just the two of us so they could share their thoughts without feeling rushed.”

13. Do you have a car and/or reliable transportation?

If you’re interviewing for a position in the Greater London area, it’s likely that you’ll need to have your own transportation. ITV is looking for candidates who are willing and able to commute to work on their own. If you don’t have your own car or reliable transportation, be sure to explain how you plan to get to work if you’re hired.

Example: “I do have my own vehicle, which I’ve had for several years now. It’s a reliable car, but I’m planning to upgrade soon. I know that having my own transportation is important for this role, so I will make sure to purchase a new car before starting.”

14. Describe a time where you had to prioritize tasks, how did you choose which ones needed to be done first?

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention the steps you took to choose which task needed to be done first.

Example: “In my previous role as an assistant manager at a restaurant, I had to manage many different tasks each day. One of my main responsibilities was ensuring that all servers were prepared for their shifts. Each server would have different tables they were responsible for during their shift, so I had to make sure they knew who they were serving and when they should expect to see them again.

I would typically start by checking in with each server to see if they had any questions about their assigned tables. If not, then I would go through the list of reservations we had for the night and assign each table to a specific server. This helped me ensure that every guest was being served by the right person.”

15. The job requires someone who can work independently. How would you describe yourself as a worker?

This question is an opportunity to show your interviewer that you are a self-motivated and independent worker. You can describe how you work independently, but also as part of a team.

Example: “I am very comfortable working on my own. I have done so for the past five years at my current job where I manage a team of 10 employees. However, I also enjoy collaborating with others and learning from them. For example, when I first started managing my department, I would ask my supervisor questions about how to do things or what to expect in certain situations. Now, I feel more confident in my abilities and know how to handle most situations.”

16. If hired, what additional skills would you bring to our company?

This question is an opportunity to show the interviewer that you have researched their company and are eager to join. You can answer this question by highlighting a skill or two that you would like to develop in your first year at ITV.

Example: “I’ve noticed that ITV has many opportunities for growth, which I think is great. If hired, I would be excited to learn more about how to produce content for all of the different channels within the network. I am also interested in learning more about digital media and how it relates to traditional broadcasting.”

17. Provide an example of a time when you went above and beyond for a client.

This question is a great way to show your dedication and passion for the job. When answering this question, it can be helpful to think of a time when you went above and beyond for a client or customer.

Example: “When I was working as an assistant manager at my previous company, we had a client who was very important to us. They were always in need of extra help with their projects, so I would often stay late to help them out. One night, they needed some last-minute assistance on a project that was due early the next morning. I stayed until midnight to make sure everything was done.”

18. When was the last time you were asked to move out of your comfort zone?

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of your ability to adapt and grow as an employee. Use examples from previous roles or experiences that helped you develop new skills, overcome challenges or learn more about yourself.

Example: “In my last role, I was asked to take on additional responsibilities in the marketing department. At first, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of work I had to complete each day. However, I decided to accept the challenge and began learning everything I could about digital marketing. After a few weeks, I became comfortable with all aspects of the job and even started developing strategies for other departments.”

19. What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career so far, how did you overcome it?

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you’re willing to take on challenges and learn from them. It’s also an opportunity for you to discuss how your skills have grown since overcoming the challenge.

Example: “The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career so far was when I first started working as a producer at ABC News. The news team had just lost one of our senior producers, and I was asked to step into her role. At first, it was overwhelming because there were so many responsibilities involved with being a senior producer. However, I took some time to reflect on what I already knew about producing and used those skills to help me overcome the challenge.”

20. We’re looking for someone who is extremely detail oriented. Does this sound like something you would excel at?

This question is a great way to test your attention to detail. When answering, it can be helpful to give an example of how you were able to excel in this area in the past.

Example: “I have always been extremely detail oriented and I think that’s one of my greatest strengths as a candidate for this position. In my last role, I was responsible for ensuring all social media posts were up-to-date and relevant. This included making sure we had new content on our Instagram account every day, which required me to check each post at least twice per week.”
