How to Write a Legal Billing Specialist Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

The best way to make your resume stand out is to use specific numbers, percentages, and dollar amounts whenever possible. So rather than saying you “assisted attorneys with billing,” you could say that you “assisted attorneys with billing for 15+ clients per day, resulting in an average turnaround time of less than 2 hours.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides specific details about what you did and the results of your work. And it also provides a quantifiable number—15+ clients per day—which makes it easy for a recruiter or hiring manager to understand your level of involvement and the scale of the project.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

Most legal billing specialists use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to apply for jobs. This system scans your resume for specific keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might not rank it highly enough for a recruiter to see it.

One way to make sure your resume includes the right keywords is to read through job postings and take note of the terms and phrases that are used most frequently. You can then add those same terms to your resume where they are most relevant.
