20 nCino Interview Questions and Answers

Prepare for the types of questions you are likely to be asked when interviewing for a position at nCino.

When it comes to interviews, nCino is looking for candidates who are a good fit for their company culture and who have the skills and experience necessary to be successful in the role. nCino interview questions will focus on your experience with cloud-based solutions, your ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and your customer service skills.

nCino Interview Process

The interview process at nCino can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most positions will require an initial phone screening call with a member of the hiring team, followed by one or more in-person or Zoom meetings with the hiring manager and/or potential coworkers. Applicants may also be asked to complete a coding assessment and/or work sample as part of the interview process. The final step of the interview process is typically a panel interview, during which applicants are asked questions by a group of nCino employees.

1. What is your experience with Salesforce?

Salesforce is a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) solution that many businesses use to manage their sales and marketing activities. If you have experience with this platform, explain how it helped your previous employer achieve its goals.

Example: “I’ve worked with Salesforce for the past five years as an IT specialist at my current company. I started out managing our CRM system, which included creating new accounts, updating contact information and monitoring leads. As I gained more experience, I began training other employees on using the system and developed several reports to help us track our progress. This led to increased revenue and improved client satisfaction.”

2. Can you describe your experience working in a SaaS product environment?

This question is an opportunity to show your knowledge of the nCino product and how it works. You can describe what a SaaS environment is, as well as your experience working in one.

Example: “A SaaS product is software that’s hosted on the cloud rather than installed on-site. In my last role, I worked with several different types of SaaS products including CRM, ERP and CMS systems. My team was responsible for maintaining these systems, which included monitoring performance metrics and troubleshooting issues.”

3. How would you respond to an angry customer that was not satisfied with the service they received?

This question can help the interviewer assess your customer service skills and how you would respond to a challenging situation. Use examples from previous experience or describe what you would do in this situation.

Example: “I have had several experiences with angry customers, but I always try to remain calm and listen to their concerns. In my last position, an upset customer called me because they were having trouble accessing their account online. I apologized for the inconvenience and explained that there was a temporary outage due to scheduled maintenance. The customer seemed satisfied with my response and thanked me for my patience.”

4. Describe what your typical day looks like as a Software Engineer.

This question is a great way to learn more about the day-to-day responsibilities of the role. It also allows you to show your interviewer that you understand what it takes to be successful in this position.

Example: “My typical day starts with checking my email and responding to any urgent messages or emails from clients. I then check our project management software for updates on current projects, including due dates and deadlines. After that, I spend time working on new projects by researching customer needs and creating solutions based on those needs. Throughout the day, I meet with other team members to discuss progress and collaborate on different tasks.”

5. Tell me about a time when you had to make a difficult decision, how did you go about it?

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions. When answering this question, it can be helpful to describe the process you used to come to a decision and what the outcome was.

Example: “When I first started working as an IT specialist for my current employer, we had a server crash that caused some of our customer data to become corrupted. This meant that we needed to restore all of our servers from backup, which took several hours. While I knew that restoring from backup would take longer than just fixing the issue, I decided to do so because I didn’t want to risk losing any more data. In the end, we were able to restore all of our servers without losing any additional data.”

6. What is one thing on your resume that makes you stand out from other candidates?

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you have done your research on the company and are prepared for this interview. When answering, it can be helpful to mention something specific about the company or its mission statement.

Example: “I noticed that nCino has an excellent reputation in the industry for being innovative and forward-thinking. I am excited to join a team of professionals who are dedicated to providing their customers with the best possible experience. In my last position, I was able to implement several new features into our system that helped us improve customer satisfaction by 10%. This made me realize how much I enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where I can make a difference.”

7. Why do you want to work at nCino?

This question can help the interviewer learn more about your interest in their company. Use this opportunity to show that you’ve done research on the organization and understand what they do. You can also use this time to highlight any skills or experiences that make you a good fit for the role.

Example: “I want to work at nCino because I’m passionate about helping businesses succeed. In my last position, I helped small business owners create marketing plans that increased sales by 20%. 8. What do you think about our company culture?

This question is a great way to see if you’re a good fit for the company. It’s important that you understand what the company culture is and how it aligns with your own values. Example: “I think your company has an excellent culture of innovation and collaboration. I’ve noticed from reading your website that you have many different departments working together to achieve common goals. 9. Do you have any experience with creating and implementing new processes or procedures?

This question is an opportunity to show your problem-solving and critical thinking skills. When answering this question, it can be helpful to describe a time when you had to create or implement a new process or procedure at your previous job.

Example: “At my last job, I was responsible for creating the company’s onboarding process for new employees. This included developing training materials, scheduling orientation meetings and setting up employee accounts. It took me several weeks to develop all of these processes, but once they were in place, it made it much easier for other team members to onboard new employees.”

10. Have you ever worked in a start up environment before?

This question is a great way to gauge your interest in working for a smaller company. If you have, the interviewer may ask more questions about what it was like and how you contributed. If you haven’t worked at a start up before, you can talk about why you’re excited about this opportunity.

Example: “I’ve never worked at a startup before, but I’m really excited about this opportunity because of the innovative nature of the product. I think my background as an engineer would be helpful in developing new features and making sure that the system runs smoothly.”

11. In your last role, tell us about a problem you encountered and how you solved it.

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and how you can use them in the workplace. When answering this question, make sure to focus on the steps you took to solve the issue and what the outcome was.

Example: “In my last role as a senior software engineer, I encountered an issue with one of our bank’s online systems. The system would freeze up when customers tried to access it. This caused many problems for the company because they couldn’t process any transactions. After talking with my team about the issue, we decided that the best course of action would be to update the system’s coding. We worked together to create a new coding language that would fix the freezing issues.”

12. Which aspects of software engineering are you most interested in?

This question can help the interviewer get a sense of your interests and how they align with the job. It also helps them understand what you might be most passionate about in this role.

Example: “I’m interested in all aspects of software engineering, but I find myself most drawn to the front-end development process. I enjoy learning new coding languages and finding ways to create user interfaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and easy for customers to navigate.”

13. Give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully manage multiple competing priorities.

This question is designed to assess your ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once. When answering this question, it can be helpful to provide an example of a time when you had several projects or assignments due within the same timeframe.

Example: “In my last role as a senior software developer, I was responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously. One week, I had three different projects that were all due on the same day. Two of these projects required me to work with other developers, while one project was something I could complete by myself. I decided to focus most of my attention on the project that I could do alone so that I could get it out of the way early in the week. Then, I delegated the two remaining projects to other members of my team so we could all meet our deadlines.”

14. What is your experience with Java?

Java is a programming language that can be used to create applications for the web. It’s also one of the most popular languages in the world, so many companies use it as their primary programming language. If you have experience with Java, explain how you’ve used it and what your favorite features are.

Example: “I have five years of experience using Java. I started out learning the basics of coding through an online course, which taught me enough to get my foot in the door at my previous job. My first job was working on a team that developed software using Java. I learned more about the language by reading books and taking additional courses.”

15. If hired, how will you contribute to our mission at nCino?

This question is an opportunity to show your understanding of the company’s mission and how you can help achieve it. You should research the company’s website or ask about its goals before the interview so that you can tailor your answer to fit their values.

Example: “I am passionate about helping businesses succeed, which is why I became a developer in the first place. nCino has a goal of making banking more accessible for small business owners, and I would love to be part of a team that makes this happen. I have experience with developing software that helps streamline processes and make them more efficient, so I think my skills will be useful here.”

16. What interests you about this position?

This question is a great opportunity to show the interviewer that you have done your research on the company and position. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention something specific about the job description or the company itself.

Example: “I am interested in this position because I love working with technology and helping people. The role of an nCino developer requires me to use my coding skills to create solutions for financial institutions, which I find very rewarding. I also like how nCino allows banks to provide their customers with more convenient banking options.”

17. What is your experience with Agile development methodology?

Agile development is a software development methodology that focuses on creating solutions in short cycles. This allows for the team to test and implement changes quickly, which can be beneficial when working with large projects. Your answer should show your understanding of Agile development and how you’ve used it in previous roles.

Example: “I have experience using Agile development in my last role as a developer. I worked on several projects where we implemented Agile development methodologies. One project was an online banking platform that needed to integrate new features regularly. We were able to use Agile development to create a system that could add new features without disrupting existing ones.”

18. When you encounter an issue, what is your first thought process for solving it?

This question is a great way to determine how you approach challenges and solve problems. It also allows the interviewer to understand your thought process, which can be helpful if they are looking for someone who thinks in a particular way.

Example: “When I encounter an issue, my first thought process is to assess what exactly the problem is. Once I know what the issue is, I try to think of ways that I have solved similar issues in the past. If I haven’t encountered this specific issue before, I will research different solutions until I find one that works.”

19. What type of code review process have you been through?

Code review is a process that involves multiple developers reviewing each other’s code to ensure it meets the standards of the company. The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your experience with code reviews and how you’ve used them in the past.

Example: “In my last role, I was part of a team of five developers who worked on one project together. We had weekly meetings where we discussed our progress and any issues we were having with the code. This allowed us to collaborate and provide feedback to each other so we could improve our work. It also helped us stay organized by keeping track of what tasks we needed to complete.”

20. What is your experience with SQL?

SQL is a database language that can be used to create and manage databases. It’s an important skill for developers, as it allows them to store data in a format that the application can understand. Your answer should show that you have some experience with SQL and how you use it.

Example: “I’ve worked with SQL before, but I’m not an expert. In my last role, we had a problem where our database was corrupting data. We were able to fix this by using SQL to restore the database from a backup file. This allowed us to get back up and running without losing any of our customer data.”
