20 NFL Interview Questions and Answers

Prepare for the types of questions you are likely to be asked when interviewing for a position at NFL.

When it comes to interviewing for a job with the NFL, there are a few things you can expect. First, you can expect the interview process to be very competitive. After all, there are only 32 teams in the NFL, and each team has its own specific needs. Second, you can expect the interviewers to ask you a lot of specific questions about your knowledge of the game of football.

So, what kind of questions can you expect to be asked in an NFL interview? Here are a few examples:

-How would you explain the role of a quarterback to someone who has never played the game before? -What do you think are the most important qualities for a successful head coach? -How would you go about evaluating a potential draft pick? -What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the NFL today?

Answering these questions well can help you stand out from the crowd and land the job you want with the NFL.

NFL Interview Process

The NFL interview process can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most positions will require at least two rounds of interviews, with the first being a recorded Hirevue interview. For some positions, like the Junior Rotational Program, you may be required to answer questions while recording yourself. The second round of interviews is usually conducted over Zoom with members of the team. For some positions, like the Summer Event Intern, the second interview may be more casual and focused on explaining the role.

1. What do you think the NFL’s biggest challenge has been over the past year?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the NFL and how you can help it overcome challenges. When answering this question, make sure to focus on something that happened in the past year so you don’t give away any information about what may happen in the future.

Example: “The biggest challenge I see for the NFL right now is the lack of diversity among players. The league has made strides over the years to increase diversity among its teams, but there’s still work to be done. In my last position as an assistant coach, we implemented a program where every player had to meet with someone from another background at least once per month. This helped our team become more diverse and led to better communication between teammates.”

2. Tell me about a time where you had to work with difficult people and what your approach was.

This question is a great way to see how you handle conflict and challenging situations. It’s important to be honest in your answer, but also show that you can work with others who may have different opinions or approaches than you do.

Example: “I had an assistant coach when I was playing for the Dolphins who didn’t believe in my ability as a quarterback. He would often criticize me during practice and team meetings, which made it difficult for me to focus on my game. Instead of getting upset about his comments, I decided to use them as motivation. I focused on improving my skills so he couldn’t doubt my abilities anymore.”

3. How would you handle negative press?

The NFL is a high-profile organization that often makes headlines for both positive and negative reasons. Employers want to know how you would handle the negative press if it were to occur during your employment with them.

Example: “I understand that no matter what job I have, there will be times when I am in the news for something negative. In my previous position as an assistant coach, we had a player who was arrested for driving under the influence. The media picked up on this story and began asking questions about our team’s policy regarding DUIs. As the head coach, I addressed the media and explained that while we do not have a specific policy, we take these situations very seriously and hold players accountable for their actions.”

4. Do you have any experience working with sports teams or leagues?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the NFL and how you can contribute to it. If you have experience working with sports teams or leagues, explain what you did in that role.

Example: “I worked as an assistant coach for my high school’s football team for three years. I helped lead the team to two state championships during my time there. In addition to coaching, I also served as the athletic director for the school district where I coached. I was responsible for managing budgets, hiring coaches and more.”

5. What do you know about the current state of the NFL?

This question is a great way to test your knowledge of the league and its current events. It also shows that you are passionate about football and have been following along with what’s going on in the NFL.

Example: “I know that there has been some controversy surrounding the national anthem protests, which I think is unfortunate because it takes away from the real issue at hand. I believe that players should be able to protest peacefully without being criticized for their actions. I also know that the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl this year.”

6. If you were running the NFL, how would you deal with domestic violence issues?

This question is a way for the interviewer to assess your values and how you would handle such an issue. It’s important to show that you understand the gravity of domestic violence, but also that you can think critically about solutions.

Example: “Domestic violence is a serious problem in our society, and I believe it’s important to take action against those who commit these acts. In my experience as a football player, I’ve seen many instances where players have been accused of committing domestic violence. While some cases are more severe than others, I believe that all should be dealt with equally.

I would implement a policy that suspends any player who commits domestic violence from playing for at least one season. If they were found guilty by law, then their suspension would last until the end of their sentence. This would ensure that no matter what happens off the field, we’re taking care of business on the field.”

7. Why are you the best candidate for this position?

This question is a great way for employers to learn more about your qualifications and how you can contribute to the team. When answering this question, it’s important to highlight your skills and abilities that make you an ideal candidate.

Example: “I am the best candidate for this position because I have all of the necessary skills and experience to excel in this role. Throughout my career as a football player, I’ve learned what it takes to be successful on the field and off. My communication skills are excellent, which makes me a great teammate. I also have a strong work ethic and always strive to do my best.”

8. Describe a time when you had to meet tight deadlines.

This question is a great way to see how you handle pressure and time management. It’s important for NFL players to be able to perform under pressure, so interviewers may ask this question to make sure you can do that.

Example: “In my last season of college football, I had to balance schoolwork with practice and games. This meant I was often working on assignments late into the night. One week, we had two away games in one week, which meant I would have to work on homework while traveling. To prepare myself, I made sure to get all my assignments done early and organized so I could focus on them during the trip.”

9. How well can you work under pressure?

This question is a great way to test your ability to perform under pressure. NFL games are often decided in the final minutes, so it’s important that you can stay calm and focused when the game is on the line.

Example: “I’ve been playing football since I was a kid, so I’m used to being under pressure during games. In my last season of college ball, we were down by three points with only seconds left on the clock. I knew I had to make a big play if we wanted to win the game. I caught the ball, ran for about 30 yards and scored the winning touchdown. It was an amazing feeling.”

10. Are you comfortable with editing video footage?

Video editing is a skill that many sports broadcasters need to have. This question helps the interviewer determine if you have any experience with video editing and how comfortable you are with it. If you don’t have much experience, you can explain what other skills you have that would help you learn this skill quickly.

Example: “I’ve never edited video footage before, but I am very tech-savvy and understand how to use most software programs. I also have an eye for detail, so I think I could learn this skill fairly easily.”

11. Tell me about an experience that you’ve had that relates to project management.

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the position and how you can apply it. When answering this question, make sure that you highlight your experience with project management and how it helped you succeed in the situation.

Example: “In my last job as an assistant manager at a local restaurant, I was responsible for managing multiple projects at once. One day, our head chef called out sick, leaving me in charge of preparing all of the food for the day’s lunch rush. I had to delegate tasks to other employees while also making sure everything was ready on time. It was a stressful situation, but I managed to get everything done by the end of the day.”

12. How well does your skill set match the requirements of the job?

This question is a great way for employers to gauge your knowledge of the position and how you can contribute to their team. When answering this question, make sure you thoroughly read through the job description and highlight any skills that match what they are looking for in an employee.

Example: “I believe my skill set matches the requirements of this position quite well. I have five years of experience as a defensive back, which means I am familiar with the responsibilities of a cornerback. In addition, I have excellent communication skills, so I think I would be able to work well with other players on the field.”

13. What is your experience in marketing?

The NFL is a business, and the league’s teams need to market themselves in order to attract fans. The more experience you have with marketing, the better you can help your team promote itself.

Example: “I’ve worked as a social media manager for my previous employer, where I was responsible for creating content that would engage our target audience. This included posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other platforms. I also created email campaigns and newsletters to keep our customers informed about new products and sales.”

14. In the next 5 years, what challenges will the company face and what steps should be taken to address them?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the company and how you can help it grow. When answering this question, make sure to highlight any research you’ve done on the organization and its goals.

Example: “I believe that in the next five years, the biggest challenge for the NFL will be finding new ways to engage with fans digitally. I think there are many opportunities to use technology to improve the fan experience at games and during the offseason. For example, I would suggest implementing an app where fans could order food from their seats or even get exclusive content.”

15. Where do you see yourself in five years?

This question is a common one in interviews, but it’s especially important to answer honestly when interviewing for an NFL team. The league has strict rules about players’ contracts and how long they can stay with the same team. If you’re not sure what your future holds, be honest about that as well.

Example: “I’m hoping to still be playing football in five years. I love this sport and want to continue my career as long as possible. However, if I am no longer able to play professionally, I would like to coach at the collegiate level.”

16. Can you tell us about a recent technological advancement related to your field?

The NFL is a forward-thinking organization that embraces new technology. Employers ask this question to see if you are familiar with the latest advancements in your field and how they can apply to their organization. When preparing for an interview, research any recent technological advances related to your field. If you have experience using these technologies, share them with the interviewer.

Example: “I am very familiar with the newest innovations in my field. I recently attended a seminar on artificial intelligence where the speaker discussed how AI could be used to predict plays during games. This would allow coaches to make more informed decisions about which players to put into the game.”

17. What makes you excited about our product?

This question is a great way to show your passion for the sport and how you can use that passion to benefit the team. When answering this question, it’s important to be honest about what makes you excited about football and why you’re passionate about the game.

Example: “I’m really excited about the NFL because I love watching talented athletes compete at the highest level. The players are so skilled and have worked hard to get where they are today. It’s inspiring to see someone who has overcome adversity or injury to make it in the league. I also think it’s important to support women in sports, which is another reason I am excited about the NFL.”

18. We want our interns to take on as much responsibility as possible. Would you be comfortable with that?

This question is a great way to gauge how much responsibility an applicant can handle. It’s also a good way for the interviewer to see if you’re willing to take on more than what your internship description entails.

Example: “I’m always looking for ways to expand my knowledge and experience, so I would be happy to take on as much responsibility as possible. In fact, I’ve been told that I have a knack for taking initiative and finding solutions to problems. If there was something I could do to help out, I’d love to.”

19. Give an example of a time when you managed several projects at once.

This question is a great way to show your ability to multitask and prioritize. It’s important for NFL coaches to be able to manage multiple projects at once, so it’s helpful if you can demonstrate this skill in your interview.

Example: “In my last position as an assistant coach, I was responsible for managing the team’s practice schedule while also helping with game planning and scouting reports. This required me to work closely with the head coach on scheduling practices around our upcoming games and ensuring that we had enough time to prepare for each opponent.”

20. What is your favorite team sport?

This question is a great way to learn more about your potential new colleague’s interests and background. It can also help you determine if they have any experience with the sport or team that they mention, which could be beneficial for them in their role.

Example: “My favorite sport is basketball because I grew up playing it and watching my brother play on his high school team. He went on to play at college, so I was able to watch him there as well. I love the fast-paced action of the game and how much teamwork goes into each play.”
