OTIS Interview Process

The interview process at OTIS can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, in general, the process is fairly long, with multiple rounds of interviews. 1. What are the most important things to consider when designing an elevator?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the industry and how you can apply it. When answering, make sure to include all of the important factors that go into elevator design.

Example: “The most important thing to consider when designing an elevator is safety. The primary purpose of elevators is to transport people from one floor to another safely, so this should be at the forefront of every decision made during the design process. Another factor to keep in mind is efficiency. Elevators are designed to move large numbers of people quickly, so they need to be as efficient as possible. Finally, aesthetics are also important because customers will see them every day.”

2. How would you use digital platforms and social media to market OTIS products?

Social media and digital platforms are important tools for marketing products. Employers ask this question to see if you have experience using these channels to promote a brand or product. Use your answer to show that you understand the importance of social media and digital platforms in today’s business world. Explain how you would use these platforms to market OTIS products.

Example: “I think it is very important to use social media and digital platforms to market OTIS products. These platforms allow me to connect with potential customers, share information about new products and promotions, and build relationships with current customers. I would use social media and digital platforms to create engaging content that highlights the benefits of OTIS products. I would also use these platforms to respond to customer questions and concerns.”

3. Tell me about a time where you had to work with someone who did not agree with your decision, how did you deal with it?

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to work with others. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention the steps you took to ensure everyone was on the same page.

Example: “In my previous role as an OTIS elevator technician, I had to work with several different departments including maintenance, security and building management. One time, I needed to replace a faulty circuit board in one of the elevators. The building manager wanted me to wait until after hours so that they could do some cleaning before replacing the part. I explained to them that waiting would cause more downtime for the company and customers. We came up with a solution where we replaced the part during normal business hours but also cleaned the elevator while it was down.”

4. Provide an example of a situation where you used your interpersonal skills to resolve a conflict between colleagues.

This question is an opportunity to show your ability to work with others and resolve conflicts. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a specific situation where you used your communication skills to help solve a problem or disagreement between coworkers.

Example: “In my previous role as an occupational therapist assistant, I worked with a team of occupational therapists who were all very experienced in their field. However, there was one occupational therapist who would often disagree with the other occupational therapists on how to treat patients. This led to some disagreements among the occupational therapists, which made it difficult for them to collaborate effectively.

I spoke with each occupational therapist individually about their concerns and asked what they thought could improve the collaboration process. After talking with each occupational therapist, we decided that having weekly meetings to discuss patient cases would allow everyone to contribute their ideas and opinions while also allowing us to focus on our individual tasks.”

5. Describe some ways that you have been able to make improvements in a company’s operations or processes.

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to work with others. When answering this question, it can be helpful to provide specific examples of how you helped improve operations or processes in the past.

Example: “In my last position as an occupational therapist at a hospital, I noticed that there were many patients who would have to wait for long periods of time before they could see their occupational therapist. This was because we had so many patients that needed our services. In order to solve this issue, I worked with other occupational therapists to create a system where we could better manage our patient load. We created a schedule where each occupational therapist would take on a certain number of patients per day. This allowed us to better serve our patients while also allowing us to spend more quality time with them.”

6. In what types of situations do you excel at dealing with customer dissatisfaction?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you handle conflict and challenges. Use examples from your previous experience to show that you are a problem solver who is able to diffuse challenging situations with customers.

Example: “I have had several experiences where I’ve dealt with customer dissatisfaction, but one of my favorite was when a client called me because their elevator wasn’t working properly. When I arrived at the building, I found out that it was only one of the elevators that wasn’t working. The client was very upset about this, so I explained to them why it was only one elevator and not both. They were satisfied with my explanation and thanked me for coming out.”

7. How do you go about building long-lasting relationships with customers?

This question is your opportunity to show the interviewer that you have excellent customer service skills. Use examples from previous jobs or talk about how you would approach building a relationship with customers in this role.

Example: “I believe it’s important to listen to my customers and understand their needs. I also make sure to communicate clearly with them so they know what to expect during every step of the process. In my last job, I had a client who was very particular about the elevator she wanted for her home. She knew exactly what she wanted, but she didn’t want me to sell her something she didn’t need. Instead, we worked together to find an elevator that met all of her requirements while staying within her budget.”

8. What is your experience working with Excel and other spreadsheets?

The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your experience with Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheets. If you have previous experience using these programs, describe how you used them in your past job. If you don’t have any experience working with spreadsheets, explain that you are willing to learn the program if hired.

Example: “I’ve worked with Excel for several years now. I use it to track my patients’ progress and keep records of their appointments. In my last position, I also used a spreadsheet to organize our department’s budget.”

9. Do you have any experience working with CAD software?

The interviewer may ask this question to see if you have experience with the company’s proprietary software. If you don’t, it is important to show that you are willing to learn new programs and adapt quickly.

Example: “I haven’t worked with CAD software before, but I am very comfortable learning new programs. In my previous role as an occupational therapist assistant, I had to work with a variety of different software programs for various tasks. For example, I used Microsoft Word to write reports and Excel to create graphs and charts. I also learned how to use Google Sheets to track patient progress.”

10. Tell me about a time when you had to implement new changes within a business.

I think I would make a great addition to the team at OTIS because I’m eager to learn more about new technologies and how they can improve our current products.”

12. We are looking for Engineers who can work independently and manage their own projects. Would you be comfortable with this type of role?

This question is an opportunity to show the interviewer that you are comfortable with independent work and can manage your time effectively. You can answer this question by explaining how you have managed projects in the past, or if you haven’t had experience managing a project, you can talk about how you would approach it.

Example: “I am very comfortable working independently on projects. In my last role as an engineer, I was responsible for designing and building elevators from start to finish. This included researching different elevator designs, creating blueprints, ordering parts and materials, and overseeing construction of the elevators.”

13. If our clients were to describe you in one word, what would they say?

This question is a great way to learn more about the company culture and how you might fit in. It also helps employers understand what your coworkers will think of you when they meet you for the first time. When answering this question, try to be as positive as possible while still being honest.

Example: “I would hope that my clients would describe me as helpful, friendly and professional. I believe these are all important traits for an OTIS employee.”

14. Can you tell us more about your previous engineering roles?

This question is a great way for the interviewer to learn more about your experience and skills. You can use this opportunity to highlight any unique or challenging projects you worked on, as well as how you overcame challenges.

Example: “In my last role, I was responsible for overseeing all aspects of engineering design and development. This included creating detailed plans for new construction projects, updating existing structures and ensuring that all elevators and escalators were in compliance with state and federal regulations. In addition to these responsibilities, I also managed a team of engineers who assisted me with various tasks.”

15. When was a time you had to learn something quickly on the job?

This question can help the interviewer get a better idea of your ability to learn new things and adapt to different situations. Use examples from previous jobs or school projects that show you’re willing to take on challenges and develop skills quickly.

Example: “When I first started working as an OTIS elevator technician, I had to learn how to repair all types of elevators. This was challenging at first because there were so many different parts and systems to remember. However, I took advantage of my company’s training program and watched videos online to refresh my memory. After about six months, I could identify most problems with an elevator just by looking at it.”

16. Tell me about a project that you worked on that improved overall efficiency in the workplace.

The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your ability to work as part of a team and how you contribute to the overall success of a company. Use examples from previous jobs that show your ability to collaborate with others, solve problems and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Example: “At my last job, I worked on a project that involved improving efficiency for customers who used our elevators. We started by surveying customers to find out what they liked and disliked about using our elevators. After we collected all of the data, we found that many customers were frustrated because it took too long for an elevator to arrive at their floor.

We decided to implement a new system where customers could press a button to call an elevator. This helped us reduce wait times significantly.”

17. Our sales team needs to be able to handle rejection well. Have you ever experienced rejection in a sales environment before, and if so, how did you respond?

The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your ability to handle rejection and how you respond to it. This can be an important skill for sales professionals, as they will likely experience some form of rejection throughout their career. When answering this question, try to provide a specific example from your past that demonstrates your ability to overcome rejection and move forward with confidence.

Example: “In my previous position, I was responsible for selling our company’s escalators to businesses in the area. One day, I went to visit a business owner who had expressed interest in purchasing one of our escalators. However, when I arrived at his office, he told me that he decided to go with another brand because we were too expensive. I felt disappointed but tried not to show it. Instead, I asked him why he chose the other brand and what made them cheaper than us. He explained that they offered a discount on shipping costs, which saved him money overall.

I thanked him for his time and left. Then, I called our shipping department and asked if there was anything we could do to lower shipping costs. They looked into it and found that we could save $50 per unit by using a different shipping service. I relayed this information back to the business owner, and he ended up choosing us after all.”

18. Give an example of a time when you exceeded expectations on a sales target.

This question is a great way to show your potential employer that you are goal-oriented and motivated by incentives. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention the specific target you were working toward and how you achieved it.

Example: “At my previous job, I was tasked with increasing sales of escalators in our region by 10%. I worked hard to find new clients and increase business with existing ones. In the end, I exceeded my sales quota by 15%, which helped the company grow overall.”

19. Do you prefer working alone or as part of a team?

This question can help an interviewer determine how you might fit into the company culture. If your potential employer values teamwork, it’s important to show that you’re a team player who is willing to work with others and share ideas.

Example: “I enjoy working both alone and as part of a team. I find that when I’m working on my own, I have more time to think through problems and come up with solutions. However, I also value collaboration and learning from other people. In fact, I often ask for input from my coworkers when I’m trying to solve a problem or figure out a solution.”

20. Tell us about a time when you went above and beyond for a client.

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you are willing to go the extra mile for clients. It also shows them that you value customer service and enjoy helping others.

Example: “I had a client who was in a wheelchair, so I made sure to arrive early at their home every morning to help them get into their car. One day, they were running late for work and asked me if I could drive them there instead of my usual routine of driving them to their front door. I happily agreed and drove them to their office where they worked as an accountant.”
