What are some of the most important qualities for a successful patient care technician?

When answering this question, think of the most important traits you have as a person and relate them back to working in a medical setting.

Example: “I believe that overall well-being comes from having all three aspects of your life in balance. For example, if you are physically healthy but have no energy or motivation because you are depressed, then you won’t be able to take care of yourself properly. If you are physically active but don’t feel like you belong anywhere, then you may not be mentally healthy either. I think it’s important for me to help patients achieve all three areas of wellness so they can live happy, productive lives.”

How often do you perform routine checks on equipment or instruments used for patient care?

The interviewer may ask this question to assess your attention to detail and ability to follow protocols. Your answer should include a specific example of how you performed these checks in the past, as well as what you did if you found any issues with equipment or instruments.

Example: “I perform routine checks on all equipment and instruments used for patient care at least once every shift. For instance, when I started working at my previous hospital, I noticed that one of our blood pressure monitors was not functioning properly. After checking with other technicians, we determined that it needed new batteries. We replaced them, and the monitor worked fine after that.”

There is a patient who needs frequent care, but they don’t have a regular nurse or technician. How would you make sure to provide excellent service?
