If you have a knack for storytelling, an eye for detail, and a desire to share knowledge with your listeners, you might be a great candidate to host a podcast.
As a podcast host, you’ll be in charge of selecting topics that will interest your audience and interviewing experts in those areas to provide listeners with compelling content that’s both informative and entertaining. You might also conduct interviews with special guests or create a show around your own unique perspective on a particular topic.
Before you can get started with your own podcast though, you’ll need to write a great résumé that will help you land the job. Here are some tips to follow along with an example for reference.
Here’s how to write a resume of your own.
Bullet points are a great way to showcase your experience, but they’re not enough on their own. You also need to use them to tell a story about your work. So rather than just listing your responsibilities, you could describe them in detail and then tie them back to the results of your work.
For example, rather than saying you “conducted interviews with guests for weekly podcast,” you could say that you “conducted 15+ interviews with guests from diverse backgrounds and industries each week, resulting in a weekly podcast with a loyal following of listeners.”
Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work.
When you apply for a podcast host role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. ATS programs rank resumes based on the relevance of each applicant’s skills and experience to the specific job opening.
To increase your chances of getting an interview, it’s important to include relevant keywords in your resume. You can find these keywords by reading through the job posting and highlighting words or phrases that are repeated.
Podcast hosts need to be proficient in a few key areas in order to produce a high-quality show. Firstly, they need to be able to use audio editing software to edit their recordings and add sound effects. Additionally, they need to be familiar with popular podcasting platforms like iTunes and Stitcher, and they should have a good understanding of how to promote their show on social media.
