How to Write an RFP Specialist Resume

Here’s how to write an resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. And the best way to do that is by using specific examples and numbers.

For example, rather than saying you “managed RFPs for large-scale projects,” you could say that you “managed RFPs for 10+ large-scale projects with budgets ranging from $5 million to $10 million, resulting in a 95% approval rate from clients.”

The second bullet point is much more specific and provides a clear picture of what you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit an application for an RFP specialist role, it’s usually directed to an applicant tracking system (ATS). This software will scan your resume for certain keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might automatically reject your application.

One way to make sure your resume makes it past the ATS is to include relevant keywords throughout all sections of your document. You can find keywords by reading through the job posting and including words and phrases that are repeated throughout.

Here are some common RFP specialist keywords:

  • Government Contracting
  • Contract Management
  • Program Management
  • RFP
  • U.S. Government
  • Contract Negotiation
  • Procurement
  • Business Process Improvement
  • Negotiation
  • Public Policy
  • Defense
  • Sourcing
  • Grant Writing
  • Change Management
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Business Analysis
  • Organizational Leadership
  • Strategy
  • Consulting
  • Program Development
  • Competitive Bidder
  • Proposal Writing
  • Procurement Contract Management
  • Cross-functional Team Leadership
  • Vendor Management
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Change Management Consulting
  • Program Evaluation
  • Business Strategy
  • RFP Management

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As an RFP Specialist, you will be responsible for creating and managing requests for proposals (RFPs). In order to effectively do your job, you will need to be proficient in the use of specific software programs and systems.

Some of the programs and systems that you will need to be familiar with include: RFP management software, proposal writing software, and project management software. Additionally, you will need to have a solid understanding of the RFP process, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with clients and vendors.
