In your answer, try to show that you understand how these regulations affect the workplace. You can also mention any experience you have had working within an environment where OSHA regulations were in place.

Example: “I am very familiar with OSHA standards. I worked for a construction company that was required to comply with OSHA regulations. This meant we needed to hire a safety consultant to ensure our site met all the necessary requirements. I helped my employer find a qualified safety consultant who could help us meet all the necessary guidelines.”

What are some of the most common safety hazards you’ve encountered in the workplace?

This question can help the interviewer get a better idea of your experience and expertise in safety. Use examples from previous work experiences to highlight your knowledge, skills and abilities as a consultant.

Example: “Some of the most common hazards I’ve encountered are improper use of equipment, unsafe storage of materials and chemicals and lack of proper lighting or ventilation. In my last position, I helped reduce workplace accidents by implementing new policies for handling hazardous materials and ensuring that employees were using tools safely. I also implemented new procedures for storing materials and supplies so they wouldn’t be damaged or contaminated.”

How would you approach a situation where management is resistant to implementing safety measures?

Interviewers may ask this question to assess your interpersonal skills and ability to influence others. In your answer, demonstrate how you would approach the situation with management and convince them of the importance of implementing safety measures.

Example: “In my experience as a safety consultant, I have encountered situations where management is resistant to implementing new safety measures or procedures. Sometimes it’s because they don’t see the need for the change or they’re worried about the cost of implementation. What would you do if you noticed two of your coworkers engaging in a practice that you knew was unsafe?

How well do you think you can work with management to promote a safe work environment?

Example: “I think it’s important to have a good relationship with management because they are often the ones who make decisions about company policy. I always try to be respectful in my communication with managers and provide them with as much information as possible so they can make informed choices. If there is ever an issue where we disagree, I am willing to compromise or find a middle ground if it means ensuring the safety of employees.”

Do you have any experience performing risk assessments? If so, what is one example that stands out?

Interviewers may ask this question to learn more about your experience with performing risk assessments and how you might apply that knowledge in their organization. When answering, it can be helpful to share an example of a time when you performed a risk assessment and the results you achieved.

Example: “In my previous role as a safety consultant, I was responsible for conducting regular risk assessments on all areas of the facility. One day, I noticed some employees were using extension cords to power equipment because they didn’t have access to outlets. This raised concerns for me because extension cords are not safe to use around machinery. So, I met with management to discuss our options. We decided to install additional outlets throughout the facility so employees could safely plug in their equipment.”

When performing a safety audit, what is the first thing you usually look for?

I’d want to make sure everyone knows what we’re doing to improve our safety record so they can be part of the process.”

Describe your experience with safety software.

The interviewer may ask this question to learn about your experience with specific software programs that help companies manage their safety protocols. Use your answer to highlight the software you’ve used in the past and explain how it helped you complete your job duties.

Example: “I have worked with several different types of safety software throughout my career, but I find that a program called SafetyNet is one of the most useful tools for helping me assess a company’s current safety measures and make recommendations for improvement. This software allows me to create checklists that evaluate everything from emergency procedures to employee training. It also helps me track any changes or improvements I recommend so I can monitor whether the company implements them.”

What makes you the best candidate for this job?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your qualifications and why you’re the best person for the job. Before your interview, make a list of all your relevant skills and experiences that relate to the position. Think about what makes you unique compared to other candidates.

Which industries do you have the most experience working in?

What do you think is the most important thing to remember when performing a safety inspection?

There is a disagreement between two of your coworkers about how to perform a certain task in a way that is safe. How do you handle it?

An interviewer may ask this question to assess your ability to resolve conflicts and ensure that the workplace is a safe environment. In your answer, try to show that you can use your problem-solving skills to find solutions that satisfy everyone involved.

Example: “I would first make sure both coworkers understand why they are doing things differently. Then I would talk with them about how we could come up with a solution that makes everyone happy while still maintaining safety. If there’s no way to do so, I would have to side with one coworker over the other because it’s my responsibility as a consultant to ensure the company follows all safety regulations.”
