In your answer, explain what steps you would take to ensure your own safety as well as the safety of those around you.

Troubleshooting is an important skill to have as a sandblaster operator. Employers ask this question to make sure you know how to fix problems with the equipment and ensure that it’s safe for others to use. In your answer, explain what steps you would take to troubleshoot the machine if it stopped working.
Example: “If I was using the sandblaster and it suddenly stopped working, I would first check all of the connections to make sure they were secure. If everything looked fine there, I would then inspect the power cord to see if anything was wrong with it. If the power cord looks okay, I would unplug the machine and plug it back in again to reset it. Then, I will call the manufacturer to ensure that we can safely use that sand in our machines.”

Example: “I would first ask my coworker if they knew what they were doing wrong. If they didn’t, I would explain to them in simple terms why it’s unsafe to operate the machine in that way. Sandblasting is also environmentally friendly because there are no harmful fumes released into the air. This makes it safer for people working in the area as well as the environment. Finally, sandblasting works on most surfaces, so I can use it on a variety of projects.”
Employers ask this question to learn more about your experience level and determine if you have the skills necessary for their industry. When answering, be honest about which industries you’ve worked in and what types of projects you completed. If you don’t have much experience working in a specific industry, explain why you’re interested in it.
