What ATM Does Cash App Use: Networks, Fees & Limits

Cash App cardholders can withdraw cash from any ATM that accepts Visa, since the Cash App Card runs on the Visa network. There is no single branded ATM network exclusive to Cash App. Instead, Cash App designates certain ATMs as “in-network” and offers free withdrawals at those locations for users who qualify for its Green status program.

How ATM Access Works With Cash App

The Cash App Card is a Visa debit card, so it works at virtually any ATM displaying the Visa logo. That covers the vast majority of ATMs in the United States, including bank-owned machines, standalone ATMs at gas stations and convenience stores, and ATMs inside retail stores.

However, just because your card is accepted at an ATM doesn’t mean the withdrawal is free. Most ATM operators charge a surcharge fee, typically $2 to $3.50 per transaction. Cash App may also charge its own fee on top of that unless you qualify for fee-free withdrawals through its Green status tier.

How to Get Free ATM Withdrawals

Cash App offers free in-network ATM withdrawals to customers who earn Green status. You qualify by meeting one of two thresholds each month: spending $500 or more in qualifying Cash App Card or Cash App Pay purchases, or receiving $300 or more in qualifying deposits (such as direct deposit from an employer).

Once Green status is active, you can use in-network ATMs without paying Cash App’s withdrawal fee. To find an in-network ATM near you, open the Cash App and use the map feature on the Cash App Card tab, which shows nearby surcharge-free locations. Without Green status, expect to pay both the ATM operator’s surcharge and Cash App’s own fee on each withdrawal.

Weekly Withdrawal Limits

Cash App caps ATM withdrawals at $1,000 per week regardless of your account status. That limit resets every Saturday at 7 PM Eastern. Cash-back transactions at store registers count toward the same $1,000 weekly cap, so if you get $100 back at a grocery checkout, your remaining ATM allowance for that week drops to $900.

Depositing Cash Into Your Account

While ATMs let you take money out, Cash App also lets you deposit physical cash into your balance at a long list of retail locations. This is done either by swiping your Cash App Card or scanning a barcode generated in the app. Supported retailers for deposits include major chains like Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, 7-Eleven, Kroger (and its family of stores), Walmart, Sheetz, Circle K, and H-E-B, among many others.

Cash App charges a flat $1 processing fee on each paper money deposit, deducted automatically from the amount you hand over. That fee is waived if you have Green status. At Walmart, deposits are handled at the customer service desk or MoneyCenter rather than at a standard register.

Tips for Avoiding Unnecessary Fees

If you regularly use Cash App as your primary spending account, hitting the $300 direct deposit threshold or $500 spending threshold for Green status is the simplest way to eliminate ATM fees entirely on in-network machines. Setting up direct deposit from your paycheck is usually enough to cross that line without changing your habits.

When you need cash and don’t have Green status, getting cash back at a store checkout is often cheaper than an out-of-network ATM withdrawal, since many retailers don’t charge a fee for cash back with a purchase. Just remember that amount still counts toward your $1,000 weekly limit.
