Tango is a digital rewards platform that lets businesses send gift cards, prepaid cards, and charitable donations to recipients electronically. If you received a Tango reward, it most likely came as a “Reward Link,” an email containing a link that lets you choose from over 3,100 gift card options. You don’t need to sign up for anything or pay a fee to redeem it.
How Tango Works
Tango operates as a middleman between businesses and reward recipients. Companies use the Tango portal to purchase and distribute digital rewards for things like employee recognition programs, customer incentives, survey completions, referral bonuses, and promotional campaigns. The platform handles the delivery, tracking, and fulfillment so the business doesn’t have to manage individual gift card purchases.
Previously known as Tango Card, the company rebranded to simply “Tango” in 2023. The platform is free for businesses to set up, with no minimums and no sign-up fees. Businesses fund their accounts and then send rewards in whatever denominations they choose.
What You Can Redeem
The most common Tango reward is called a Reward Link. When you open one, you’ll see a catalog of options and get to pick whichever brand you want. The catalog includes over 3,100 physical and digital gift cards across several categories:
- Retail and e-commerce: Amazon, Target, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Nordstrom, Macy’s, eBay, REI, Ulta Beauty, and dozens more.
- Food and dining: Starbucks, DoorDash, Domino’s, Chipotle, Burger King, Applebee’s, IHOP, and Outback Steakhouse, among others.
- Entertainment and travel: Google Play, AMC Theatres, Airbnb, and various airline gift cards.
- Apparel: Nike, Adidas, Nordstrom, Abercrombie & Fitch, and more.
- Prepaid cards: Visa, Mastercard, and Discover prepaid cards, which work like debit cards almost anywhere those networks are accepted.
- Charitable donations: Over 30 nonprofits, including the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. If you choose a donation, Tango forwards the funds minus an 8% administrative fee.
Not every Reward Link offers the full catalog. The business that sent your reward may have pre-selected a smaller set of options, so your choices could be more limited than the full 3,100+.
How to Redeem a Reward Link
You’ll receive an email with a link. Click it, and you’ll land on a page showing the dollar value of your reward and the available gift card options. Browse or search for the brand you want, select it, and the system generates your gift card code instantly. For digital gift cards, you’ll typically get the code on screen and via email. If you choose a prepaid Visa or Mastercard, the delivery process may vary slightly depending on whether it’s a digital or physical card.
There’s no account to create on the recipient side. You simply click, choose, and receive your gift card. The entire process takes a couple of minutes.
Do Reward Links Expire?
Most Reward Links do not have an expiration date, so you can redeem them whenever you’re ready. However, some businesses issue promotional versions called “Promo Links” that do carry a specific expiration date. To check whether yours expires, look at the original email where you received the link. You can also find expiration information at the top of the Reward Link page itself when you click through.
If your Reward Link has already expired, you can contact Tango’s support team to ask about options. Once you redeem your Reward Link for a specific retailer’s gift card, that gift card then follows the issuing retailer’s own terms and expiration policies.
Who Sends Tango Rewards
You might receive a Tango reward from an employer, a market research company, a software platform, or any business running an incentive program. Common scenarios include completing a survey, participating in a product review, hitting a work milestone, or being part of a customer loyalty program. The sender chooses the reward amount and delivery method, and Tango handles the rest.
Because Tango works behind the scenes for so many different companies, the email you receive may or may not mention Tango by name. Look for “Reward Link” branding or a link that directs to a Tango-hosted page where you select your gift card. If you’re unsure whether a reward email is legitimate, check with the company or program that promised you the incentive before clicking any links.
