1. What is your experience with creating and implementing safety standards?

Use your answer to show the interviewer that you understand how important it is to keep yourself and others safe while on the job.

Example: “In my previous role, I was responsible for developing and enforcing our safety policy. This included everything from ensuring all employees wore their protective gear when working in certain areas to making sure they were aware of any hazards or potential dangers. I also conducted monthly inspections to ensure everyone was following the rules.”

2. Describe how you would approach creating a new chemical compound.

This question is a test of your knowledge and skills in the chemical industry. It also allows you to show how you can apply your expertise to benefit BASF’s business.

Example: “I would first research what chemicals are already available for this compound, as well as any other compounds that could be used to create it. I would then use my knowledge of chemistry to determine which elements or compounds I need to combine to make the new compound. Once I have all of the necessary information, I would begin combining the elements or compounds until I achieve the desired result.”

3. Tell us about a time that you were not able to meet your deadlines for an assignment or project. How did you handle it?

This question can help the interviewer get a better understanding of your time management skills. Use this opportunity to explain how you overcame any challenges and what steps you took to ensure that it didn’t happen again.

Example: “In my first year as an engineer, I was working on a project for a client who needed our team’s final report within two weeks. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we weren’t able to submit the report until three weeks later than expected. The client wasn’t happy with the delay, but they understood that there were extenuating circumstances. We worked hard to make sure that we met all deadlines in the future.”

4. Do you have any experience working in a warehouse environment?

BASF has a large warehouse facility in the United States, and they want to make sure that you have experience working in this type of environment. If you do not have any experience working in a warehouse, it is important to explain why.

Example: “I have worked in a warehouse before, but I am more comfortable working in an office setting. In my last role, I was responsible for managing inventory levels and making sure that we had enough supplies on hand to meet customer demand. This required me to work with employees who were loading trucks and unloading shipments. While I enjoyed the challenge of this job, I prefer to work in an office setting where I can focus on data analysis and reporting.”

5. Provide an example of a time when you had to make a difficult decision at work. Why was the decision so hard to make, and what was the outcome?

When an interviewer asks you to provide an example of a time when you made a difficult decision, they are trying to learn more about your problem-solving skills and how you make decisions. When answering this question, try to give an example that shows the steps you take to solve problems and make decisions.

Example: “When I was working as a sales representative for my previous company, we were having trouble selling our products to one client in particular. The client had been ordering from us for years, but suddenly stopped placing orders. I knew that if we lost their business, it would be hard to find another customer who could match their order size.

I met with the client to discuss why they weren’t placing any new orders. They told me that they were unhappy with the quality of our product. I apologized for the issue and offered to replace all of their inventory at no charge. They agreed to place a small order while we fixed the quality issues. We worked hard to improve our product, and after two months, they placed a large order.”

6. What are some steps you can take to ensure workplace safety?

BASF is a large company that produces chemicals and other products for many industries. The interviewer may ask this question to make sure you understand the importance of workplace safety and how to implement it in your future role. Use examples from previous experience where you implemented policies or procedures to ensure the safety of employees, customers or the public.

Example: “I have worked at several companies throughout my career, and I’ve noticed that some companies don’t always have the best safety practices in place. In my last position as an operations manager, I noticed that our warehouse staff was not wearing proper protective equipment when moving heavy boxes. I met with the team to discuss why they should wear the gear and what would happen if they didn’t. After implementing these new rules, we saw a significant decrease in injuries.”

7. BASF places emphasis on the use of technology in our manufacturing process. How familiar are you with using different types of technology to automate processes?

This question is an opportunity to show your knowledge of the company’s products and services, as well as how you can use technology to improve processes.

Example: “I have experience with using different types of technology in manufacturing processes. In my last role, I worked on a team that used robotics to automate some of our production lines. This helped us increase efficiency by reducing human error and improving quality control measures. I also understand the importance of implementing software solutions into business operations. For example, BASF has several software applications for managing inventory and supply chain management.”

8. Can you tell me about a time where you had to deal with a very upset customer/client?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you handle conflict and challenging situations. Use examples from your experience where you were able to resolve a situation with an upset customer or client, even if it wasn’t at your current job.

Example: “In my previous role as a sales representative for a construction company, I had a client who was very unhappy with our product because they said it didn’t meet their expectations. 9. What would you do if you noticed that a co-worker wasn’t following proper safety procedures?

Interviewers ask this question to see how you would handle a situation that could affect the safety of others. In your answer, show that you value the importance of following company policies and procedures.

Example: “If I noticed a co-worker wasn’t following proper safety procedures, I would first make sure they were aware of the policy or procedure in place. If they still didn’t follow it, I would report them to my supervisor so they could address the issue. I believe that everyone should be held accountable for their actions, so I would want to ensure that the person was properly disciplined.”

10. If hired, how would you get your team members excited about working at BASF?

This question is an opportunity to show your leadership skills and ability to motivate others. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a specific example of how you motivated your team in the past.

Example: “I would get my team excited about working at BASF by showing them that I care about their well-being. For instance, if one of my employees was having a hard time with a project or had any questions, I would make sure to take the time to listen to them and help them find answers. This type of support from management shows employees that we value their opinions and want to see them succeed.”

11. In what ways do you like to keep organized?

12. Which area of chemistry are you most interested in?

BASF is a chemical supplier, so it’s important that you have an interest in chemistry. Your answer should show the interviewer your passion for this field and how it can benefit BASF.

Example: “I am most interested in organic chemistry because I find it fascinating to see how different compounds interact with each other. In my last role as a chemist, I was able to create new compounds that were more effective than existing ones. This led to increased sales for my company.”

13. Have you ever been injured while on the job? What happened, and what did you learn from the experience?

An interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your safety practices and how you react in emergency situations. If you have been injured on the job, explain what happened and what steps you took to ensure it didn’t happen again.

Example: “While working as a construction worker, I was carrying a heavy load of materials when my foot slipped off the ladder. I fell from the ladder and landed hard on the ground. Luckily, I wasn’t seriously injured, but I learned that I needed to be more careful while climbing ladders.”

14. We appreciate people who are passionate about making a difference. In what ways do you want to make a positive impact through your career?

This question is a great way to show your interest in the company and its values. When answering, it can be helpful to mention something you learned about BASF from your research that aligns with what you want to do.

Example: “I’ve read about how BASF has been working on sustainable solutions for many years now. I’m passionate about environmental conservation and would love to work for a company like this one where there are already so many initiatives in place. I think my skills as an engineer could help make these projects even more effective.”

15. What do you know about BASF’s environmental commitment?

BASF is a global company that has made it a priority to be environmentally friendly. The company’s commitment to the environment can be seen in its products and practices, including recycling initiatives and more. When answering this question, you should show that you understand BASF’s environmental efforts and how they impact the company as a whole.

Example: “I have heard about BASF’s environmental commitments before, but I was able to see them firsthand when I visited one of your facilities last year. It was impressive to see how much work goes into making sure that BASF’s processes are sustainable and eco-friendly.”

16. What is your experience with handling hazardous materials safely?

The interviewer may ask this question to understand your experience with handling chemicals that are potentially dangerous. Use examples from past experiences where you followed safety protocols and procedures, including how you communicated with others about the risks of working with hazardous materials.

Example: “In my last position as a chemical engineer, I worked on developing new products for BASF. One of these projects involved creating a paint that was both waterproof and fireproof. 17. What motivates you to show up to work every day?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you as a person and understand what drives you. Your answer should reflect your personality, values and goals.

Example: “I love working in a team environment where we all have the same goal of producing quality products for our customers. I also enjoy learning new things every day, so I’m motivated by my colleagues who are always willing to share their knowledge with me.”

18. Tell us about a time where you had to work independently. How did you stay motivated?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you handle working alone and what motivates you. When answering, it can be helpful to mention a time when you were able to work independently and successfully complete your task or project.

Example: “In my last position as an assistant manager at a restaurant, I was responsible for scheduling employees and making sure they had everything they needed on their shifts. This included hiring new staff members, training them and ensuring that all of our servers and bartenders were scheduled appropriately. It was important to me that everyone felt supported and motivated while working, so I made sure to check in with each employee regularly to see if they needed anything.”

19. Are you comfortable working outdoors?

BASF has many facilities across the United States, and some of them are located in rural areas. Interviewers ask this question to make sure you’re comfortable working outdoors and that you can handle the conditions at these locations. If you have experience working outdoors, share it with your interviewer. If not, explain how you would adapt to outdoor work if hired.

Example: “I’ve worked for a construction company before, so I’m used to working outside. However, I know BASF also works on projects indoors, so I am willing to learn new skills as needed.”

20. What qualities do you think are important for someone working in a warehouse environment?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you as a person and how your personality might fit in with BASF’s culture. Showcase qualities like teamwork, dependability, attention to detail and communication skills.

Example: “I think it’s important for someone working in a warehouse environment to be organized, efficient and able to multitask. I’ve worked in warehouses before, so I’m familiar with the importance of these traits.
