Bullet points are the most common way to showcase your experience and qualifications on a resume. But they don’t have to be boring or generic! You can use bullet points to tell a story about your experience and qualifications. And you can use them to showcase your personality and creativity.
For example, rather than saying you “provided legal counsel to clients,” you could say you “provided legal counsel to startup founders on issues related to intellectual property, including drafting and negotiating patent and trademark licensing agreements.”
The second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what you did. And it also includes a quantifiable detail about the type of work you did.
When you submit your resume for a client partner role, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. ATS programs look for specific terms that are related to the job, like “client relationship management” or “sales.” If your resume doesn’t have enough of the right keywords, the ATS might not forward it to a recruiter.
