How to Add Sezzle to Apple Pay and Where It Works

To add Sezzle to Apple Pay, you need to open the Sezzle app, go to the Virtual Card tab, and tap the “Add to Wallet” button below the card image. But before that button appears, you need either an active Sezzle Anywhere subscription or a purchase request already created on a limited-use card. Here’s exactly how the process works and what it costs.

What You Need Before You Start

Sezzle connects to Apple Pay through its virtual card, not through a traditional credit or debit card. The virtual card is a Visa that lives inside the Sezzle app, and it only becomes eligible for Apple Pay under certain conditions.

If you want to use Sezzle at any store that accepts Apple Pay (not just Sezzle partner merchants), you’ll need Sezzle Anywhere. This is a monthly subscription that costs $19.99 and unlocks the multi-use virtual card for broad spending wherever Visa is accepted, including in-store purchases through Apple Pay and online checkouts. Without this subscription, your virtual card is limited to Sezzle’s partner merchants.

Sezzle also offers a lower-tier subscription called Sezzle Premium at $13.99 per month, though Sezzle Anywhere is the subscription specifically designed to enable Apple Pay at non-partner retailers. Both subscriptions auto-renew monthly on the anniversary of your enrollment date unless you cancel.

How to Add Your Sezzle Card to Apple Pay

Once you have the right subscription or an active purchase request, follow these steps:

  • Open the Sezzle app on your iPhone and log in to your account.
  • Tap the Virtual Card tab. You’ll see your Sezzle virtual Visa card displayed on screen.
  • Tap “Add to Wallet” below the card image. This button only appears after you’ve either subscribed to Sezzle Anywhere or created a purchase request.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts. Sezzle will walk you through configuring the card for Apple Pay, which includes verifying the card and agreeing to terms within the Apple Wallet setup flow.

After completing these steps, your Sezzle virtual card will appear in your Apple Wallet alongside any other cards you’ve added. You can then select it as your payment method when you hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near a contactless payment terminal.

How Sezzle Payments Work Through Apple Pay

When you pay with your Sezzle card through Apple Pay, the purchase still follows Sezzle’s buy-now-pay-later structure. Your total is typically split into four installments paid over six weeks. The first payment is due at the time of purchase, and the remaining three are scheduled automatically.

The experience at checkout looks identical to any other Apple Pay transaction. You double-click the side button (or use Face ID or Touch ID), hold your device near the terminal, and the payment processes. The merchant sees a normal Visa transaction. Behind the scenes, Sezzle is funding the purchase and setting up your installment schedule.

Where You Can and Can’t Use It

With a Sezzle Anywhere subscription, the virtual card works virtually anywhere Visa and Apple Pay are accepted. That covers most major retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, and online merchants.

Without Sezzle Anywhere, your card functions as a limited-use card. Limited-use cards can still be added to Apple Pay, but they only work at Sezzle’s partner merchants, with some additional restrictions based on Sezzle’s Acceptable Use Policy. If you try to use a limited-use card at a non-partner store, the transaction will be declined.

Sezzle restricts certain categories of purchases regardless of your subscription level. Their Acceptable Use Policy excludes things like cash advances, money orders, and certain other transaction types. If a purchase is declined unexpectedly, this policy is the likely reason.

Troubleshooting the “Add to Wallet” Button

The most common issue people run into is not seeing the “Add to Wallet” button in the Sezzle app. This usually means one of two things: you haven’t subscribed to Sezzle Anywhere yet, or you haven’t created a purchase request. The button only appears after one of those actions activates the virtual card.

If you’ve already subscribed and still don’t see the option, try closing and reopening the Sezzle app, or check that your app is updated to the latest version. The virtual card tab should show your card details and the wallet button directly beneath the card image. Apple Pay setup also requires that your iPhone is signed into iCloud and that your device supports contactless payments, which includes iPhone 6 and later models.

Managing the Subscription

The $19.99 monthly fee for Sezzle Anywhere is charged directly by Sezzle, not through the App Store. To cancel, you’ll need to do so within the Sezzle app itself rather than through your iPhone’s subscription settings. If you cancel, your virtual card loses its “anywhere” functionality, and it will revert to working only with Sezzle partner merchants. Your card will remain in Apple Wallet, but non-partner transactions will start getting declined.
