How to Change Your Cash App Password or PIN

Cash App doesn’t use a traditional password. Instead, it relies on two layers of security: a one-time login code sent to your phone or email each time you sign in, and a four-digit Cash PIN that authorizes payments and transfers. When people search for how to change their Cash App password, they almost always need to change their Cash PIN. Here’s how to do it on both mobile and desktop.

Change Your Cash PIN in the App

Open Cash App on your phone and follow these steps:

  • Tap the profile icon on your home screen
  • Select Security
  • Press Change Cash PIN
  • Confirm your new PIN

The change takes effect immediately. Your new four-digit PIN will be required the next time you send money, cash out to your bank, or make any other transaction that needs authorization.

Change Your Cash PIN Online

You can also update your PIN from a browser if you don’t have your phone handy:

  • Log into your account at cash.app/account
  • Click Account at the bottom of the left toolbar to open your settings
  • Find the Security section and click Change Cash PIN
  • Confirm your current PIN, then enter and re-confirm the new one

Note that the desktop version asks you to verify your current PIN before setting a new one, while the mobile app may skip that step if you’re already authenticated through your device.

How Cash App Login Actually Works

If you’re trying to change how you sign into Cash App rather than your payment PIN, there’s nothing stored to change. Cash App doesn’t have a standing password you type each time. Instead, every time you log in on a new device or session, Cash App sends a one-time verification code to the email address or phone number linked to your account. You enter that code, and you’re in.

This means there’s no password to forget, reset, or update. If you want to change where those login codes are sent, go to your profile, tap “Personal” or your account settings, and update your email address or phone number. The next time you log in, Cash App will send the code to whatever contact method you have on file.

Set Up Face ID or Touch ID

If typing a PIN every time you send money feels tedious, you can replace it with biometric authentication. Go to your profile in Cash App, open Privacy & Security, and toggle on Security Lock. Cash App will prompt you to choose between your PIN, Touch ID, or Face ID. Once enabled, your fingerprint or face scan authorizes payments instead of the four-digit code.

This also adds a layer of protection if someone picks up your unlocked phone. Without Security Lock enabled, anyone with access to your open app could send money without entering any credentials. Turning it on ensures every payment requires your biometric confirmation or PIN, even if the app is already open.

If You Forgot Your Current PIN

On the mobile app, you can reset a forgotten PIN by following the same path: profile icon, Security, Change Cash PIN. The app typically verifies your identity through the device you’re already signed into rather than asking for the old PIN. If you’re trying to reset through the desktop site, you’ll be asked for your current PIN first, which makes the mobile app the easier route when you’ve forgotten it.

If you’re locked out entirely and can’t access the app or the website, contact Cash App support through the app (if you can still open it) or at cash.app/contact. You’ll need to verify your identity with the phone number or email on your account before support can help you regain access.
