You cannot view your full Discover card number in the Discover mobile app. Discover’s security policy restricts the full card number to your physical card only. The app, monthly statements, and all other Discover communications display only the last four digits of your account number.
This is frustrating if you need your card number for an online purchase and don’t have your physical card handy, but there are a few ways to work around it.
Why Discover Hides the Full Number
Discover treats your credit card number and your account number as the same thing. To reduce the risk of fraud and theft, the company made a deliberate choice: your full number appears only on the physical card itself. Every other channel, including the app, the website, paper statements, and any emails or letters from Discover, will show just the last four digits. This applies to all Discover credit card products, not just specific ones.
What You Can Do Instead
If you need to make a purchase and don’t have your physical card available, you have a few options that don’t require the full card number.
- Use a digital wallet. If you’ve already added your Discover card to Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay, you can tap to pay in stores or use the digital wallet for online and in-app purchases. The digital wallet protects your actual card number by substituting a token, so merchants never see it. You can link your card to a digital wallet through your Discover account.
- Use Discover Click to Pay. This is Discover’s checkout service for online shopping. It works at participating retailers and keeps your card number hidden from the merchant, similar to a digital wallet but designed specifically for web purchases.
- Check a saved payment method. If you’ve previously used your Discover card on a site like Amazon or another retailer, your card details may already be stored there. You won’t see the full number, but you can still complete the purchase.
- Call Discover directly. If you’ve lost your card or can’t access it, calling customer service may help. A representative can verify your identity and assist with next steps, including expediting a replacement card.
Setting Up a Digital Wallet for Next Time
Adding your Discover card to a digital wallet now saves you from this problem in the future. Open the wallet app on your phone (Wallet on iPhone, Google Wallet on Android), tap the option to add a card, and either scan your physical card or enter the number manually. Once it’s added, your Discover card works for contactless payments in stores and for online checkouts wherever the digital wallet is accepted. Your rewards earn at the same rate as purchases made with the physical card.
You do need the physical card (or the full number) to set this up the first time, so it’s worth doing while you have the card in hand rather than waiting until you need it.
If Your Card Is Lost or Stolen
If the reason you’re searching for your card number is that you’ve lost your card, open the Discover app and look for the option to report it lost or stolen, or call the number on the back of your statement. Discover will freeze the old number immediately and send a replacement. If you had the card saved in a digital wallet, the new card number should update automatically in most cases, though it’s worth double-checking after the replacement arrives.
