How to Take Money Off a Cash App Card: 3 Ways

You can take money off your Cash App card in three ways: withdraw cash at an ATM, get cash back at a store register, or transfer your balance to a linked bank account. Each method has different fees, limits, and speed, so the best choice depends on how quickly you need the money and how much you want to avoid fees.

Withdraw Cash at an ATM

Your Cash App card works at any ATM that accepts Visa. Insert or tap your card, enter your PIN, and select a withdrawal amount. Cash App charges a $2.50 fee per withdrawal, and most ATMs tack on their own operator fee on top of that, which typically runs $2 to $3.50 depending on the machine.

There is one way to avoid fees entirely. Cash App offers a perk called Cash App Green that gives you unlimited free withdrawals at in-network ATMs. To qualify, you need to either spend $500 or more in qualifying purchases with your Cash App card or receive $300 or more in qualifying paycheck deposits. If you qualify, look for in-network ATMs through the Cash App to skip both the $2.50 Cash App fee and the operator fee. Note that Cash App no longer reimburses out-of-network ATM fees, so sticking to in-network machines is the only way to withdraw for free.

Get Cash Back at a Store

Most grocery stores, pharmacies, and big-box retailers let you request cash back when you make a purchase with a debit card. Use your Cash App card to buy something, and when the terminal asks if you want cash back, select an amount. The cashier hands you the cash along with your receipt. This method typically has no extra fee from Cash App, though some retailers cap cash back at $50 to $100 per transaction.

This is often the cheapest way to get physical cash from your Cash App balance, since you avoid the $2.50 ATM fee entirely. The trade-off is that you need to make a purchase, and the cash-back amount is usually smaller than what you could pull from an ATM.

Transfer Your Balance to a Bank Account

If you don’t need physical cash right away, you can move your Cash App balance to a linked bank account or debit card. Open Cash App, tap your balance, select “Cash Out,” choose the amount, and pick your transfer speed.

  • Standard transfer: Free, and the money usually arrives in 1 to 3 business days. It deposits into your linked bank account.
  • Instant transfer: Sends money to your linked debit card within seconds. Cash App charges a fee of 0.5% to 2.5% of the transfer amount, with a minimum of $0.25 to $1 and a maximum of $75. The exact fee is shown before you confirm.

For a $200 transfer, the instant fee would be roughly $1 to $5. For larger amounts, the percentage still applies but caps at $75 no matter how much you send. If you’re not in a rush, the standard transfer saves you that fee completely.

Spending and Withdrawal Limits

Cash App sets the same limits whether you’re swiping at a store, pulling cash from an ATM, or making an online purchase. All transactions count toward a shared cap:

  • $7,000 per transaction
  • $7,000 per day
  • $10,000 per week
  • $25,000 per month

Daily limits reset at 7 PM Eastern. Weekly limits reset at 7 PM Eastern every Saturday, and monthly limits reset at 7 PM Eastern on the last day of the month. Keep in mind these limits cover everything, so a $5,000 online purchase and a $2,000 ATM withdrawal on the same day would hit your $7,000 daily cap.

Which Method Costs the Least

Cash back at a store is usually free. An in-network ATM withdrawal is free if you qualify for Cash App Green. A standard bank transfer is free but takes a few days. Everything else carries a fee. If you need cash today and don’t qualify for free ATM withdrawals, buying a small item at a grocery store and requesting cash back is the simplest way to avoid paying extra.
