2. Tell me about a time when you had to deal with an angry client, how did you handle it?

Hiring managers want to know that you can handle conflict and remain calm. They also want to see how you resolve issues with clients. When answering this question, try to focus on your ability to stay calm and solve problems.

Example: “I once had a client who was upset because they didn’t receive their insurance check in the mail. I explained to them that we mailed it out over two weeks ago and that there must have been an issue with the postal service. The client became very angry and started yelling at me. I remained calm and told them that I would look into the situation further. After checking our records, I found that the check was never sent out. I apologized for the mistake and assured them that I would make sure it got sent out right away.”

3. Do you have any experience working in the insurance industry?

10. What is your experience managing a team of employees?

15. Have you ever worked with someone who was difficult to get along with? How did you handle it?

In your answer, try to show that you are willing to compromise and communicate effectively with others.

16. Can you tell us about a time where you had to make a decision without consulting your manager?

This question can help the interviewer understand your decision-making skills and how you handle challenging situations. Use examples from your past where you made a choice that was beneficial to your team or company, even if it wasn’t what your manager would have done.

Example: “In my previous position as an insurance agent, I had a client who needed to file a claim for their home after a fire. The homeowner’s policy covered the damage, but they also had a separate flood insurance policy with us. When we filed the claim, our department determined that the flood insurance should cover the cost of repairs since the fire didn’t cause any water damage. However, the flood insurance company denied the claim because they said the fire caused the flooding.

I spoke with my manager about the situation, and she told me to follow the instructions given by the flood insurance company. After speaking with her, I decided to call the flood insurance company back and explain the situation again. They agreed to review the case again, and this time, they approved the claim.”

17. We like our account managers to be able to think quickly on their feet. Give us an example of when you had to think quickly under pressure.

Account managers often have to make quick decisions. This question helps the interviewer determine how you react under pressure and whether you can think critically.

Example: “I once had a client who was in a rush to get his insurance policy renewed before it expired. He called me on my cell phone while I was at lunch, so I told him that I would call him back as soon as I could. When I returned his call, he said he needed to renew his policy immediately because he was leaving for vacation the next day. I asked if he could wait until after 5 p.m., which gave me enough time to contact our underwriter and complete the renewal process.”

18. Do you have any certifications or licenses that are relevant to the insurance industry?

HUB International is a large insurance company that offers many different types of insurance. They want to make sure you have the necessary certifications and licenses for their specific needs. If you do, be sure to mention them in your answer. If you don’t, explain why you don’t but emphasize your experience and knowledge.

Example: “I am currently pursuing my CIC certification through the Insurance Institute of America. This certification will allow me to work with all types of insurance policies including life, property and casualty insurance. I also have my driver’s license and car insurance policy.”

19. What motivates you to succeed?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you as a person and understand what drives you. Your answer should reflect your personal values, goals or ambitions.

Example: “I am motivated by helping others succeed. I love seeing my clients’ businesses grow and thrive because it makes me feel like we’re all working together toward a common goal. I also find that I’m driven by competition. I want to be the best at what I do, so I always strive to learn new things and improve my skills.”

20. What is your greatest achievement?

This question is a great way to learn more about your potential new colleagues. It’s also an opportunity for you to show the interviewer what you’re capable of and how you can contribute to their company. When answering this question, it’s important to choose something that relates to the position you’re applying for.

Example: “My greatest achievement was when I helped my previous employer save money on insurance by finding loopholes in our policy. We were able to lower our premiums by 10% without changing any of our coverage. This saved the company $100,000 per year.”
