The tryout process is grueling, and only the best of the best are selected to move on to the interview stage. Once a player has made it to the interview stage, they will be asked a variety of questions specific to Major League Baseball.

13. We need our employees to be able to multi-task effectively. Give me an example of a time you worked on multiple projects at once.

Example: “My short term goal is to become an MLB umpire. I have been working on my craft for years now and am confident that I am ready to make the jump from high school baseball to professional baseball. My long-term goal is to become one of the top umpires in the country. To do so, I plan to continue practicing and learning new techniques.”

18. Major League Baseball is a nationally recognized brand. How can we continue to improve our public image?

Major League Baseball is a national brand that has been around for over 100 years. The organization wants to continue its success by hiring employees who can help the company grow and improve. When answering this question, show your knowledge of the MLB brand and how you would help it expand.

Example: “I think one way we can continue to improve our public image is through social media. I have seen many professional sports teams use social media as an outreach tool to connect with their fans. For example, I saw a baseball team on Instagram where they were posting pictures from games and interacting with fans. This helped them create a community feel and allowed people to get more involved in the game.”

19. Do you consider yourself a leader or more of a follower?

Major League Baseball is a highly competitive environment, and the interviewer wants to know if you have what it takes to be a leader on their team. Show them that you can take charge of a situation when necessary by providing an example from your past where you were in a leadership role.
