How to Write a Roustabout Resume

Here’s how to write a roustabout resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are a great way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But they’re only effective if they’re clear and concise. So rather than saying you “worked on oil rigs,” you could say you “installed and maintained oil rig equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides specific details about what you did and the results of your work. It also includes a quantifiable result (safe and efficient operations).

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a roustabout job, your resume is likely to go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This system will scan your resume for certain keywords related to the position. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

The best way to make sure you have the right keywords on your resume is to research the most commonly used keywords for the role you’re applying to and make sure they’re included throughout all the sections of your resume. You can find a list of common keywords below:

  • Roustabout
  • Oilfield
  • Oil & Gas
  • Petroleum
  • Onshore Operations
  • Drilling
  • Natural Gas
  • Energy
  • Upstream
  • Well Control
  • Gas
  • Petroleum Industry
  • Heavy Equipment
  • Rigging
  • Coiled Tubing
  • Offshore Oil & Gas
  • Well Intervention
  • Directional Drilling
  • Production
  • Gas Industry
  • Rig
  • C-card
  • Welding
  • Roughneck
  • Teamwork
  • Team Spirit
  • Supervisory Skills
  • Negotiation
  • Customer Service
  • Communication

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Roustabouts use a variety of technology in their work, so it is important to list your skills in this area. Some of the most common programs that roustabouts are familiar with are construction management software, heavy equipment operation software, and GPS tracking software. Additionally, roustabouts should be able to use a computer to track and document their work progress.
