How Do You Get Paid With Spark: Payment Options

Spark drivers receive trip earnings either instantly after each delivery or on a weekly schedule, depending on how they set up their payment method. The platform uses OnePay Cash as its primary digital wallet for instant payouts, and there’s no fee to receive your trip earnings through it. Here’s how the full payment system works, from base pay to tips and bonuses.

How Trip Earnings Are Paid

Your base trip earnings (the amount shown when you accept an order) can hit your account immediately after you complete a delivery, but only if you’ve set OnePay Cash as your primary earnings method. OnePay Cash is a digital wallet built specifically for Spark drivers, and signing up is done directly through the Spark Driver Portal.

To set it up, log in to the Spark Driver Portal and go to the Earnings page. Tap “Manage earnings accounts,” then select OnePay Cash. Once you’re approved, your primary earnings method switches automatically. New drivers who sign up from the start will see trip earnings deposited instantly after every delivery. If you’re an existing driver making the switch, your instant deposits kick in starting the Monday of the following pay period.

There’s no fee for receiving trip earnings through OnePay Cash. Only confirmed trip earnings post instantly, though. Tips, incentives, adjustments, and subsidies follow a different timeline.

When Tips Show Up

Tips don’t arrive at the same time as your base trip pay. Customers have a 24-hour window after delivery to adjust or remove their tip, so your tip amount isn’t finalized until that window closes. Once confirmed, tips typically post 24 to 48 hours after the trip.

This delay matters because the tip shown when you accept an order isn’t guaranteed. A customer can reduce or zero out the tip within that 24-hour period. You may see a generous tip estimate on the offer screen and end up with less once the confirmation window passes. It’s worth factoring this into how you evaluate which orders to accept, especially on high-tip deliveries where a large portion of the payout depends on the customer following through.

How Incentives and Bonuses Work

On top of base pay and tips, Spark offers incentives that reward consistent work. These bonuses don’t post instantly. Incentive pay arrives weekly on Tuesdays, separate from your per-trip earnings.

Spark runs a tiered rewards program. All drivers in good standing qualify for Tier 1 rewards. Tier 2 unlocks additional perks, potentially including a free one-month Walmart+ membership, but you have to meet specific thresholds the previous calendar month: complete at least 20 trips and maintain a Green Customer Rating in the My Metrics section of the app. If you hit those numbers in January, for example, you’d receive your Tier 2 reward code in February.

Some delivery zones are testing a newer version of the rewards program with different qualifying metrics, so your specific requirements may vary depending on where you drive.

Moving Money Out of OnePay Cash

Once your earnings land in OnePay Cash, you can transfer the funds to your linked bank account or use the balance through the OnePay platform. The initial deposit into OnePay Cash is free, though transfer speeds and any associated fees for moving money to an external bank account depend on the options available within the OnePay app at the time of transfer.

If you prefer not to use OnePay Cash, Spark also supports direct deposit to a bank account on a weekly pay cycle. Drivers who stick with the standard weekly payout will receive their earnings on a set schedule rather than after each individual trip. For most drivers who want faster access to their money, OnePay Cash is the more practical option since it eliminates the wait.

What Counts Toward Your Pay

Your total Spark earnings break down into several components, and each one follows its own payment timeline:

  • Trip earnings: The base pay for completing a delivery. Posts instantly with OnePay Cash or weekly with standard direct deposit.
  • Tips: Finalized after the customer’s 24-hour adjustment window, then deposited within 24 to 48 hours of the trip.
  • Incentives: Bonus pay tied to volume or performance. Arrives weekly on Tuesdays.
  • Adjustments and subsidies: Any corrections to your pay post once they’re confirmed and processed, not on a fixed schedule.

Because Spark classifies drivers as independent contractors, no taxes are withheld from your earnings. You’re responsible for tracking your income and setting aside money for self-employment tax and income tax throughout the year. Keep records of your mileage, phone expenses, and any other costs related to deliveries, since those are deductible when you file.
