The easiest way to get money off Cash App without a physical card is to transfer your balance to a linked bank account. You can also use a virtual card through Apple Pay or Google Pay, or send funds to someone who can hand you cash. Each method has different speeds, fees, and limits worth understanding before you choose.
Transfer to Your Bank Account
This is the most straightforward option and doesn’t require any card at all. Open Cash App, tap your balance on the home screen, then select “Cash Out.” You’ll choose the amount and pick a transfer speed.
Standard transfers are free and typically arrive in one to three business days. The money lands in whatever bank account you’ve linked to Cash App, and from there you can withdraw it at your bank’s ATM, spend it with your bank’s debit card, or use it however you like.
If you need the money faster, instant transfers send funds to a linked debit card (from your bank, not your Cash App Card) and arrive within minutes. The fee ranges from 0.5% to 2.5% of the transfer amount, with a minimum of $0.25 to $1 and a maximum of $75. Cash App shows you the exact fee before you confirm, so there are no surprises. If you have a bank debit card linked to your account, this is the quickest no-card-needed route to your money.
Use a Virtual Card With Apple Pay or Google Pay
When you order a Cash App Card, you may get access to the virtual card details before the physical card arrives. These details appear in the Money tab inside the app, and you can add them to Apple Pay or Google Pay. Once set up, you can tap to pay at any store with an NFC-enabled payment terminal, spending directly from your Cash App balance without ever holding a physical card.
This method doesn’t put cash in your hand, but it does let you use your balance for everyday purchases like groceries, gas, or coffee. If your goal is simply to spend the money rather than withdraw physical bills, linking your virtual card to a digital wallet is fast and free.
One thing to note: not everyone gets early access to virtual card details. If you don’t see the option in your Money tab, Cash App may prompt you to follow additional steps or wait until your physical card ships.
Send Money to Someone You Trust
If you need physical cash and don’t have a bank account linked, you can send your balance to a friend or family member who can then withdraw it and hand you cash. This works through the normal Cash App send feature: enter their $cashtag, phone number, or email, type the amount, and hit pay.
Unverified accounts can send up to $1,000 within a rolling 30-day period. Verified accounts (where you’ve provided your full legal name, date of birth, and Social Security number) can send up to $40,000 in a rolling 30-day period. For most people moving a few hundred dollars, the unverified limit is fine.
The obvious downside is that this requires trusting another person to follow through. Only do this with someone you know well, and keep it to amounts you’d be comfortable losing if something went sideways.
What Doesn’t Work Without a Card
ATM withdrawals require a physical Cash App Card and your Cash PIN. Cash App does not currently support cardless ATM access through NFC tap or QR codes, so you can’t walk up to an ATM and pull out cash using just your phone.
Getting cash back at retail stores also requires the physical card. Stores that offer cash back treat your Cash App Card as a debit card, and you need to swipe or insert it and enter your PIN. There’s no barcode or app-only option for in-store cash back.
If you find yourself regularly needing cash from your Cash App balance, ordering the free Cash App Card is worth doing. But until it arrives, bank transfers, digital wallet spending, and peer-to-peer sends are your best options for accessing your funds.
