How to Write a Production Sound Mixer Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can make your resume more interesting by using bullet points to describe the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “mixed sound for film,” you could say that you “mixed sound for film, resulting in clear dialogue and ambient sound for all scenes, as well as clean, crisp sound for all special effects.”

Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a production sound mixer position, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. This program looks for certain terms related to the job, like “audio editing” or “sound mixing” in order to determine whether your skills are a match for the role. If your resume doesn’t include enough relevant keywords, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

To make sure your resume makes it past the ATS and into the hands of a recruiter, use this list of production sound mixer keywords as a starting point:

  • Sound Mixing
  • Film Production
  • Sound
  • Sound Design
  • Audio Engineering
  • Music Production
  • Audio Post Production
  • Video Production
  • Film
  • Audio Recording
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Music
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Audio Mixing
  • Voice Over
  • Studio Recording
  • Television
  • Video Editing
  • Dolby Digital
  • Foley
  • Adobe Audition
  • Music Recording
  • Location Recording
  • Post Production
  • DSLR Video
  • Final Cut Pro X
  • Sound Re-Recording Mixer
  • Pro Tools
  • Video Post Production
  • Film Post Production

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a production sound mixer, you need to be proficient in the use of audio equipment and software. This might include mixing consoles, microphones, and digital audio workstations (DAWs). You should also have a solid understanding of audio principles, such as EQ, compression, and reverb.

In addition to your technical skills, you should also list any relevant experience you have, such as working on live events, recording in studios, or mixing for film and television.
